I took my Mossberg 500 with the new Knoxx stock and an old pawnshop buy Marlin 75C out to shoot this morning.

1st, A big thumbs up to Snapshot762 for his heads up on the mossy short shucking the slide. It took a couple of shots to learn to hold the slide forward when pulling the trigger.

2nd, I shouldn't mix shells into the same box. I pulled a couple of game load shells, fired them and holy smokes they had a hard recoil! I pulled out another one and it was a slug, just like the first two. Now, hard recoil is relative here because that knoxx system works. It still kicks, but what reaches your shoulder is far less than what used to hit you. The Russian 00 buck that hurt me last time out was a pussycat now. Federal target loads refused to eject. I had to pry them out. Their rim and my extractor are not compatable. The Rem rifled slugs were surprisingly accuarate at 100 yards,

Last, the Marlin is a joy to shoot. I think I would make it my grab first .22 over the Ruger or others.

So after buckshot, slugs and assorted game and target loads my shoulder doesn't know it was shooting a 12ga. A very fun and productive morning.

Why do you have to hold the slide forward when shooting?

Something to do with the recoil absorbing system. The whole receiver/barrel assembly moves back about an inch, above the pistol grip. I think the hand keeps moving back when that mass moves forward again, opening the action about halfway. It only happened 3 times to me and I adjusted my hold on the forearm to keep forward pressure on it. I wasn't even thinking about it after several more shots.

I think you are right, it did the exact same thing when i first fired mine with the Knoxx stock on. Glad to hear it worked for you, it seems it's sort of a like it or hate it deal.

...IS a recoil absorbing system.

Also, you could try Reminngton reduced recpoil 8-pellet 00buck, made for Law enforcement. one less pellet, different cup design to tighten groups out farther, hardened shot with granualr media packed around them to keep them from deforming, different powder formulation, water resistant (sealed) crimp.

Generally speaking, so is my shoulder. But the slugs and ruski 00 defeated it, much like my M95 mannlicher. Rem ammo is probably more expensive, too. I like this knoxx system and the adjustable stock. Works well for me.
