That's a great first step. I've always figured that aside from real border enforcement the best way to combat this problem is to go after the employers...big time. They should make it manditory jail time for the company owners for each illegal they hire, like 30 days for 1 illegal, 60 for 2 etc. Same with land lords the rent to them too.

That's fantastic news. I really hope that this passes to become a law.

You know, we have enough damn laws on the books, they just need to be enforced. I'm tired of all our lawmakers making new laws that do what we already havein place. Do they get old and have to be replaced every so often, or is it just job security to keep making more?

While it's true they need to enforce the existing laws, until they put some real teeth into hiring and harboring illegals, the owner's of companies will continue to hire them because it's so lucrative. Even a $10,000 fine for example for a company with 100 illegals is chump change...well worth the risk and part of their overhead. They will pay the fine and go right back at it.

When we start seeing CEO's in orange jumpsuits and handcuff's looking at prison time things might change.

OH yes...

another bureaucracy.

Just how much more in taxes do you guys want to pay????

Enforce the laws already on the book, don't throw more at it.

Very easy to fund...just seize the assets of repeat offenders, both companies and landlords and use that money seized to help fund more border security. Problem is the current imigration laws are not enforced, but also to weak with too many loopholes.

As long as illegals know they will find someone to hire them illegally and give them shelter they will continue to find a way here.

Its sad to see, but I think this problem goes so much deeper than just the companys that hire them, and the land lords that rent to them. It's also the Walmarts, and the Safeways, and the second-hand car lotes, and the credit card companys, and to some extent maybe even the new car lots. Theres alot of people with hands out for thier cash all over this country. Almost no discuoragment.Only encuoragment. From the bottom to the top. I truely hope this starts a healthy trend. It has to start somewhere. If not we are truely lost.

+1 to that. The reason Illegals come here 4 work is because there is work to be had. Corps don;t wanna pay what the American labor foce demands for the jobs, so they go outside for workers...to ppl who will work for next to nothing.

It is the same reason why the war on drugs is a sham...corps and others in power have a use for the black market.

Totally meaning to fan the flames. Sure that would punish a sole proprietor but how do you jail a corporation. Do you jail the CEO, CFO, Human Resources, Board of directors, all stock holders (if a public company).

Under the law the corporation is a legal entity in and of itself. You can't put a peice of paper in jail.

How about a fine with a sliding scale, for example if your company has 9 or fewer employees you pay $10,000 for each illegal. If you employ 10-99 $25,000 for each illegal, 100-499, $50,000 for each illegal, 500+ $100,000 per illegal.

The biggest thing you need for anything to work about hireing illegals is finding doctored, or fake documents. If you have ever hired anyone you fill out I-9 forms or such, its just when you can buy documents that look real, you need a way to verify what presented, as the state is looking to do there. Most places actually hireing folks pay good wages, collect ss and withholding tax, I imagine thats the american dream most want to again anyway. Just give the employeer a good way to verify. Ironically the folks that hate illegals at time hate the though of a unalterable Federal Id that would carry lots of the information that would enable quick verification if employablity.

I like that idea too...sounds good! I just want something that's going to make a difference. I don't care how it gets done just so we can stop this madness of open borders. Something needs done that's for sure.

Sounds like most posting here feel that the current laws reguarding people that employ and harbor illegals is plenty strong enough and we don't need new laws or strenthening the current ones....just more enforcement of current ones...sounds good to me.

I'm just tired of nothing of true meaning or consequences getting done...it's only our countries future as we know it at stake. Hey I'm open to all ideas, let's here 'em.
