I was at alocal shop and they had lots of argentinian 308, a few thousand rounds of it in bags of 100. They had corroded tips that were a nice shade of fuzzy green and the brass on abo0ut 85% matched. I fuggered it could clean up and be shootable at least once, but when he said 40.00/100 i just had to pass. The owner picked it up at Knob Creek and said that it was all that was to be found. I almost cried on the spot! But he did have some Hornady match brass in 308 that I got 400 pieces of at 14.00/100. He had a 5 gal bucket of that and I almost cried because I could only afford to get 400. I had to leave over 1k at the store because I ran out of money and just couldn't bring myself to trade a pistol for brass and ammo. :(

I saw that crap at the Knob Creek MGS. It was in termite eaten crates that were crumbling apart. I don't remember how much it was, just that it was more than I ever paid for surplus 7.62 Nato.

I posted in another thread I saw 20 for $8.00 for mil import at a gun store in the Prescott area.

It's not gonna get cheaper any time soon...if ever.

question,

why is it that .308 is so rare and expensive? obviously its basic supply and demand, i get that part. but arent places around the world still making it? im sure theres plenty of .308 BRs out there still... right? why cant anyone furthur up the US marketing chain get any hands on it?

ps, i mean the surplus 308, theres enough commercial stuff to go around... if your a millionaire.

The demand is far outstripping the supply, thus the cost.

Most likely, there will be another importer of milsurp 762NATO sometime, and the price will go down.

Kinda like when 762x39 was 80bux per 1000 ofr a long time, then crept up to about 100-120 a thou, then there was a shortage last year (many explanations for it, but basically it wasn't coming here to the US for 6mos..prices were at 200+bux per 1000)...after that, it came back, from Wolf and the other Tula Catridgeworks makers...and stabilized at about 160USD per 1000.

My only wish was that I had about 10K rounds of the stuff...it's like gold these days...printing money...(but that's why I tock up on the othere stuff...so I can profit or at least shoot unhindered for years).

I caught heck from the GF, when I brought home ammo by the case a couple of years back she always complained that I didnt shoot it fast enough any way, I didnt get to 10k but close or more than half that I think. :)

But now I have a 1919 kit to build and I might fire that more than anything else if I ever get it done.
