Has anyone here had any experience with the matech rear sight?

I saw one today and was wondering if they are as good as I have seen reported?

I know that they are in some use by our military so should be gtg!

I've looked at them for the build I'm working on, I'm not going to be using optics but I may require the use of a sight I can give a quick few clicks to get on target at 500 meters really quick. I'm eventually going to get a used one to mess with when the build nears completion. I'm also going to mess with a chopped carry handle sight.

The military has used them and the ONLY bad thing I've heard about them is the detent that holds the sight down wears out and the sight wont stay down after a while.

Watch out for fakes as those have been popping up. You shouldn't pay more than $45-50 for a used one.

i LOVE those things. pm me if you need one. one problem we've had with them:

if you have the sight flipped up, and you bash the rifle into something, it can bend the little roll pin that stops the sight from flipping all the way forward, which will slightly shift your zero on the lowest setting. the rest of the longer range settings will still work however, and since you only use the short setting inside of 100y, the impact is usually minimal. if you could find an identical roll pin at the hardware store it doesn't look like it would be that difficult to replace anyway.

I bought one of ebay for around $50 BNIP including shipping. It is an original MATECH and package had correct NSN label on it.

I only used it for a short time until my scope arrived but was very pleased with it.

I kinda wish they designed some sort of protective ears on it but I guess I'll find out how well it works without them when I get mine, How big is the rear aperture?

i don't have any way to measure it right now, when i get back and get my calipers again i'll try to mic it for you, but i'm pretty sure it's the same dimensions as a standard m16/m4 rear sight (the smaller regular sight, not the bigger low light/close quarters aperature)

Sounds logical, the CQ aperture is why I think I'll end up sticking with the regular carry handle sight. Esp during night shoots its handy to have that large almost ghost ring sight. If only the carry handle sight had a elevation knob like the matech...Having to run up the rear sight with clicks would kinda suck if your under the clock and have to make quick A hits at a longer range. Altough if you knew what your maximum point blank range was you could work it that way.

I have one as a BUIS. No complaints, but it is a BUIS only. If was going to use irons only, I'd sure go for a CCH type, or just use the carry handle. There is a lot if info online for proper zero of the A2 sight with various loads and barrel lengths. Not so for the Matech.

A cheap red dot is a far better night sight than a ghost ring, at any distance.

Got two of the matech buis, good sight but to me the weak point is the 6-32 screws that hold it to the mount, both the ones i have were missing the clamp and the screws were locked up and broken off but they were free.

How do you tell a fake from a real one?

How do you tell a fake from a real one?
look at underside of them and look for the white line range scale -seen both were missing both so far !! they are know to break easy almost like glass because they are made with powdered medal technique

The underside of the 1 I'm looking at has Matech punched in it at the bottom and has the white lines of the range numbers and a white line for the range indicator.

Is this one a real one then?

Which one's break easy the fakes or the real ones?
Which is made by the "powdered medal technique" fake or real ones?
