View Full Version : SKS Pecking Order Question
Where does the Norinco SKS fall in the hierarchy of SKS's? A fellow in my club has a brand new one in the box he was considering unloading. Other than handling them at stores and shows, I've no experience with them. What's a reasonable bartering price range for a new Norinco one also? I really don't need to buy yet another weapon this year, but if his price is too good to pass up, I'll jump on it.
Thanks,
Hoot

thwey were about 75USD...they go for more now since they're not being imoprted. I think if you got one for 200USD new, that would be acceptable. I paid 175 for a really cherry ugo SKS, after the shooter grade one was crap (gave 120 for that POS).

Hoot, new in box with accsories the upper end of the 175-200 might be right, I have picked up them for 80 bucks last year for a used one, ex military and slightly beat stock(no repairs but just not nice) to 125 for a nice used cowboy companion or some call sks para. Thus its some what where you live but at most shows I have been at a good shape chinese will bring what a really nice(nib or unissued) yugo brings.
The chinese will be the second most common variant you will find behind the yugos, I imagine that there were millions and millions imported untill they were banned(I am guessing that there were more chinese imported than yugos or the numbers are close), Not sure but I imagine the US has a large precentage of the Yugos ever built too though.
For A pecking order I would put my Russian first though. Just to have one.
Everyone needs one or more chinese ones( I think I have five if you count the two sks d/m's from china)

A good one with tritium nite sights if possible. They're cheap now, but once they're gone, everyone will realize that next to the russki SKSs, they're solid, milled builds ... even without the chromed bbls, they're wonderful.

chinese SKS, like the Russians, have chrome bores, Yugoslavia has no natural chromium deposits and it was too expensive to import so they did not use it in there version.
I have a couple of Norico's and they are both accurate with decent triggers.
Prices range at the Florida gun shows between $175 and $350, the prices have dropped recently too, that is to say you never saw them under $200 down here.
The Paratrooper is a fine little carbine, I enjoy shooting this and for new shooters they are great to learn on.

I thought Yugos DID have chrome bores????
The ones Ive inspected and shot sure did look like they had chrome-lining, and cleaned up like a chrome bore would. Its tough to tell looking through the grenade launcher, but I could have sworn Ive read they had chrome bores.

NA, Tito was a tight wadd, thats why without chromium deposits at hand, and the Soviets not wanting to supply it, they went without. Thus is why the Yugoslavian rifles had NATO spec launchers, I think if the chips were down Tito might have swung his armies either way during a NATO-Soviet conflict.

Heck, I haven't shot my Norinco SKS in years. I'll sell it for 195 shipped, with sling, oil bottle, cleaning rod, buttstock cleaning kit, 10 stripper clips,
I'll post an ad in the FS forum.
thanks
