I am asking this question because of the darn high co$t of Ammo lately. Can you really go out to the Range and have fun with a .22? I have a Henry .22 Pump that protects my bird feeder, and keeps some of the cats in my neighborhood from using the underside of my back deck as a Litter Box. I dont shoot the cats , but near them to scare them away hopefully. I cant see myself loading it up and going to the range with it though . Possibly I should look into a conversion for my Bushmaster AR.

What do some of you have in .22 that you like to shoot ?

Ruger 10-22 in archangle stock,GSG-5,S&W MP15-22,Walther P22 pistol all of them are a fun time to shoot. I also have a Savage 17HMR thats a little more costly to shoot but its alot of fun also.

You have a lot to chose from right now.
Ruger SR22 http://www.tactical-life.com/online/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/01226_sr-22r_ang_rt_nr_1.jpg
Remington 597 VTR http://www.remington.com/images/products/firearms/rimfire/597_vtr_410.jpg
, S&W, Colt (no good) all have new assault type rifles.

Mitchell Arms had some cool 22's that can be found on GunBroker

I had my Feather AT22 for 15 years and have a GSG5. My boy has a Ruger 10/22 but he is thinking of getting the Ruger SR-22. He also has a Henry lever action 22. After getting the lever action, he doesn't shoot the 10/22 any more.

I looked at the Puma Wildcat and it is cool but lots of plastic. The Puma 22 is more my style.

i almost bought an upper 22 ar conversion but do I realy need another 22 rifle? I think I need a 22 handgun instead.

I get bored with my 10-22 fast. It's set up with a bull barrel and thumbhole stock. I need a little plinker. Seriuosly thinking of the AR conversion kit. A silencer has surpased the rifles on my want list now. I'll start the process after New Years. Add the two together on the AR and it would be fun.

I looked at a Tactical Solutions ar upper that had a built in suppressor and one that you could add one. I think a suppressed 22 could be fun.

I got a 22 conversion for the ar's and a GSG-5, need to get out the 10/22 more and shoot them. I love shooting the 22 ruger auto pistols I have along with the couple of bolt action rifles I have some where about too.

I use my 22's as practice as cheap practice for thier big brothers. I've got a Remington 597 thats a tack driver/squirrel reducer, P22 is a cheap pistol to train with. GSG5 and AR conversion are probably the most fun. Well worth it, they dont have the big bang and recoil of high power, but you more than make up for it with more trigger pulls.

If you buy an upper, take a good look at Spikes. For a dedicated platform, I've been really happy with the S&W MP-15 .22. Stay away from the Colt until Umarex gets all of the bugs worked out. I've had 2 friends now that have taken them back for problems.

For SnG...

A ,22 makes a nice break from the big stuff - big recoil - big noise. But even bringing a couple of .22s only gets boring fast.

I like that PPSH41 look of the Puma.

WOW! I checked prices on Puma stuff and they sure don't think their outhouse smells! Too bad. The over the shoulder scabbord for a lever action rifle is just what I want - but not at $250. Aren't these things made in South America?

That's the ministry of the interior's (Wifey) new "camo" pattern for the guest room. Although she is convinced with the gun safes in the room we'll never have anyone stay over :)

I really wanted somehting a bit more Rhodie, but was overuled instantly.

We have several .22's in semi and bolt rifles and semi and single action handguns, if you get bored then shoot farther out. Grab a cheap bag of dollar store ginger snaps or a box of imitation ritz crackers for a buck and there isn't even any cleanup, the critters will get it for you.

A .22LR for practice? Let me put it this way, you can shoot 550 22LR's for the price of 30 223 rounds.

Now take that 22 to the range and hone those shooting skills!

occasionally ill shoot .22LR, but it has to be kinda big, different, and special for me to truly enjoy it.
nothing gets dirtier, or leads up worse than .22LR and it just doesnt have the oomph that the larger stuff has, but it keeps me out shooting when ive ran out of the other stuff and refuse to pay 40 cents a round

Johnny let me shoot a box of piney mountain .22 tracers out of his Norell 10/22 at the thanksgiving day shoot - fantastic fun, and they work GREAT, but expensive. light instantly and trace to about 100 yards - in a fast gun like a norell it looks like a laser even in daylight

and i just bought my wife one of the razorback beltfed .22LR uppers (a miniature 1919a4 mounted to an ar15 lower) - we shall see how well it works. im hoping good cause this is something neato that ill enjoy shooting for a while

THAT is hysterical! a belt fed .22? AWESOME!

As to having fun with a .22, you gotta know how... You have to have someone shooting against you, and you have to come up with nearly impossible feats, like shooting a cottonball off of a popsicle stick from 100+ yards away. Sure, it's hard, but the bragging rights if you can hit it are well worth it.

My brother and I come up with some truly challenging games when we shoot together. One of them involved a small, paper pieplate suspended from a string so that it swings in the breeze. 200 yards away, that gets rather hard to hit with a .22 lever action Henry, but if you DO hit it, you get to frog the other guy in the arm. Stuff like that.

You can SEE a paper plate at 200 yards!?!? Get me a big scope! :icon_biggrin:

I'm hoping for a CMMG conversion and some Black Dog mags for my AR this Christmas... fingers crossed. I have an old school Marlin Model 60 with the squirrel in the stock. I replaced some springs in it and have been plinking trouble free since in the pit lately. It's fun but the sights are terrible so I'm going to have to get a .22 scope on it. Before I fixed her up I hadn't shot a .22 in years. Fun and cheap, kinda reminds me of a few years back...

where did you get the 1919 looking .22?

http://www.lakesideguns.com/ Looks like they also have a FA version for a select fire lower; and I read somewhere else that you can use links, smallest links ever. I would totaly get one, those are badass.

yep, me and my wife were walking the SAR show west a couple weeks ago and i saw it.
my wife saw the mini belt and got excited, and i got to looking at it and saw how similar it was to my 1919.

the LM7 (full auto rated) upper was $1800.00
the razorback was $695.00 cash and carry and can be made to work with a transferable M16 by adding a sear trip and anti bounce

basically the same thing but about $1100.00 cheaper and you have to make your own sear trip and anti bounce if you have a transferable lower you plan to put it on

i can report that it ran well with the 50 round belt - just like all brownings it loved being drenched in oil and ran better and it helped to hand feed the belt (just like its big brother if the rounds twist around it will jam in the feedway)

the 200 round cloth belt is defective and is going to have to go back cause the pockets arent all sewn correctly

we didnt spend much time with it - maybe 200 rounds so the eotech isnt exactly perfect, but its close enough that my wife was nailing bowling pins at about 50 yards

lotta fun

Oh, that's just too cool... FA with no recoil... That's like shooting a lazer gun with a fixed beam... Not that I've done that. No. Never happened. The Pentagon would be MOST displeased if I'd ever done that... Well... the kind that just puts a dot on the target, okay, but the OTHER kind... Never heard of it...
