A friend gave me a tin of 7.62x54r LB but I'm not sure if it's Bulgarian or Russian?

Not 100% but most Russian I've seen look just like that.

The bulgarian I have seen as a circle 10 mark on the top. I think that is russian. Also I think the 188 designates russian and maybe 7n6 ammo.

It definitely Russian, what you have is steel core steel case ammo Lot# r96 made in 1977 at Russian ammo factory 188 the same factory that produces the 7N1 sniper ammo for the Russian SVD semi-auto sniper rifle although it is not the same ammo that you have, that has a special designation on the tin. Yours also is Light Ball with boat tail the colored ban means it silver tip, powder is lot # 5 produced in 1977 from powder location C.

Damn, where did you find that kind of info? Is that the same for Hungarian and Bulgarian?

Great info BTW.

I should have known 7.62x54R.net would have had that info. I have used them from time to time while searching for info on a few rifles.
