Well...it appears that i NEED an SKS.
I dont have a clue what to get.!
I know nothing about them apart from they used to be $95.99 at all the gun shows back in the day.lol....along with garands and 30 carbines for $225.
Any way..need an education.
Im looking for one that takes ak47 mags....or can be converted to do so.!

Can't really go wrong with any SKS. If you want one that takes AK mags it will cost as much or more than an AK. I have both a Russian and a Chinese. They both eat anything I put in them (as long as you use the fixed 10rd mag). They both are pretty accurate. The russian looks best, the chinese has around 24K rounds down the barrel over the last 12 years with out breaking.

If you want an SKS that takes AK mags, like was said before, you will pay about as much as you would for an AK. If you want somthing to sling lead, save money and just get an AK.

Stripper clips in the fixed mag reload as fast or faster than a magazine, IMO.

You can still get Yugo SKS for around $200+/-. I am not sure which ones are collectable, but if you want a shooter try the yugo. Chinese and Russian guns will cost a little more.

Forget the AK mags. #1 to what Micro said about stripper clips being just as quick. You're not going for volume of fire with a battle rifle, you're going for a balance of volume versus accuracy. You want volume, get an AK. You want accuracy (as well as can be had with the 7.62x39) get the SKS. Any will do, but the Yugos are larger and kick less. (none of them kick bad, though.) They DO make aftermarket mags that you can buy, but it screws up your 922 compliance, and you would really have to replace alot of parts in order to have a legal firearm if you convert anything.

If you are set on ak mags, you are looking for a d or m model. They are Chinese built, in the detachable mag variants but as said you will spend more for one than a ak. The most common ones here are Chinese, with Yugos following. Romanians and Russians are next.

after the FAL/L1A1 the SKS is my favorite rifle for shooting. i like the china and russians sks's ( many of my china rifles were built with russian parts),
but i have found that any of them work just fine.
if your looking for hi-cap then do what the others have posted and buy an AK to shoot. money comes out about the same.
( the amount of ammo you are likely to shoot with the AK will be more = more money spent)

If I were you I'd forget about the magazine version, they are more trouble than they are worth, in my opinion. A good SKS is a blast to shoot!

+1 and keep it in its original configuration, I hate the Tapco look on a SKS and it will lower the collector value of the gun.:nonono:
