It's not welded! Bladeworks is a master craftsman, he's figured out how to mount it with screws!:thumbup:

LOL....Smokehouse, you could have let me bask just a little longer in the "Master of the HF Tig Welder" hall of fame....But OK, yeah the gigs up, It's screwed on.....

The main thing though is that if anybody wants a picatinny rail for Hk / Cetme, or anything with either a flat or a round topped receiver, this rail is as versatile as it is tough. I think I'm gonna get one for every room in the house!

Nice work Dave!

You get welding credit for the shell deflector

So what's it screwed to? I wouldn't have guessed the sheet metal was thick enough, so there must be something inside, no?

Well, yeah, it did at first, but then after the election when he started to show his true colors...OOOOOPS! I'm in the wrong section!

Screws come in from the bottom, inside the top rib. It would have been alot easier to just weld it on, but I wanted to try this out. I drilled and tapped the rail, counter sunk the bottom of the rail...

and then pressed counter sunk areas in the top of the receiver which make a little extra room for the screws, and hold the rail tight in place by fitting up into the bottom of the rail,,,, I also chamfered the inside base of the rail a bit so it would set down tight against the receiver.

17676

Used some modified grade 8 machine screws that would fit in there and clear the carrier.

Wow, fooled me off the bat with the screwed-into receiver thing. Hows the stability versus a welded rail? Either way it looks a heck of a lot nicer with the screws.

It seems rock solid so far, I have no reason to believe it will be any more affected by recoil than any other rail mounted with screws. I put an old set of rings on it, with a 1" aluminum bar mounted as a scope and smacked it around pretty good with a block of wood and a dead blow hammer, and couldn't get any movement. It would take a pretty severe blow to move it. I first tried to form the countersinks in the receiver with a 1/4 20 bolt and jig that I fashioned up. I snapped the bolt before it even began to bend the receiver, so had to resort to using the press to get it done. So I think it would have to take some pretty serious abuse before it moved. But time will tell. I would be an idiot to claim that it's as good as a weld, but on the other hand I've seen welds crack too.
I think when I get ready to mount it, after I get done finishing the rifle, I will definitely loctite the screws, and check it every few hundred rounds.
