On the old forum we were talking about which mags fit the 223 Yugos. I finally got around to adding a little metal to mag catch so it would lock in correctly, and tried out the various mags I have. They all locked in fine, and hand cycled 5-10 rds. without issues. Now for a range trip to verify, but I think they are all fine.

I have the original Yugo steel, Weiger steel, Galil plastic, and some Promag waffles. The Galil need some minor sanding on the raised nubs that go up in the front of the magwell.

hay texlurch, could you take a pic of the different mags side by side to compare them too.

Blackthorne has the best deal on the Yugo mags. Picked up 5 of them.

Here are the four mags, left to right:

Yugo, Weiger, Galil and Promag. All are advertised as 30 rd; the Galil as 35.

The Yugo and Wieger seem to run around $30-40, think I paid $25 for the Promag and $14 for the Galils.

Bottom pic is the nubs that need to be ground down on the Galil to fit.

Also, that is the mod that needs to be made if you convert Galil mags for use on a .223 Saiga. Not so much is needed to be taken off for the Saiga conversion. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=12681 shows you how to do it for the Saiga.

When I built the Yugo M 95 I modified the Orlite Galil mags for it. Original testing was carried out with FMJ rounds, today however I switched to HP rounds. About every 3rd round from the right side of the magazine would jam against the bullet guide and stop.
This is the corrective action I have taken. And was done with the flex shaft on the Dremel with a stone, then polished with a cratex run in the Dremel
I hope this gives you a heads up if your test was with FMJ rounds.

The remainder of the test, the firing of two full 30 round magazines was without any failures.

Here’s the magazine mod, nothing else was done.

I have used the Pro Mags 223s in the Saiga, but they are Saiga specificc. They work great. I would assume the generic 223 AK Promags would work well also. The generic AK Promags are still around $15, I think
