so, this weekend, i went up to Dallas to check out the market hall gun show, brought the RPK up, came back with a yugo M70AB2 underfolder.

well i didn't really think when i traded it. it's got a receiver stamped arsenal on it, i thought it was an arsenal build, turns out it's just the receiver, i don't think it's built by them... and weird thing is, though it's got all Yugo stuff all over it, it doesn't have a bulged trunnion receiver, nor does it have a silver bolt carrier. the whole rifle is freshly parked, even the carrier!
what the heck did i buy? i don't even know what it is now... i guess some version of the M70AB2?

now, two days ago i went out with a friend who's a photographer as well, we both had fun shooting my AK.
here's some more pics

no this isn't an AK
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y268/baylorhenry/DSC_5393.jpg

alright, now, who the heck said AK's can't shoot good groupings? i shot a couple shots out of the AK as we almost ran out of ammo. i shot them at 100m, open sights, benched, 5x monarch(bernaul, russian), 5x Chinese steel copper washed.
looking at the groupings with the chinese ammo you could see how much better the ammo actually was. i coudln't believe an AK actually shot a grouping the size of about a pack of cigarettes! (chinese right, russian left)

so, who said AK's can't group? it's not an amazing grouping or anything, but it's a decent group for a battle rifle!

shoot safe guys!
Henry

most people say that because they usually use plinking ammo if you use good ammo most ak's and sks's are not that bad.

Yep, Yugo AB2. Some of them do not have the RPK type trunnion.
Most AKs will surprise you, with good ammo. Also most folks don't shoot them for accuracy, they just blast away.
Congrats on your new rifle!

nice rifle! and your photography is very impressive as usual also. glad to finally see some pics

I see what you were telling me the other day about the non-buldged trunion, that just looks like a standard stamped reciever. but i think i did hear somewhere that not all yugos had buldged trunions.

tell me, does the reciever metal seem thinner, or about the same as the RPK you had? my yugo (with the buldged reciever) has the thicker metal, like on the RPK's, so I was wondering if the non-buldged ones did too.

as for the groupings, I've heard with match ammo you can get nearly MOA with these things

also, is that the sling that came with the rifle? Ive never seen one like that. It looks cool, but its definately different than my yugo sling

Someone could have milled the bumps off of the trunion, I've heard of people doing that so they could build an AK using the "regular" rec.

definitale many yugo parts on it...the receiver and pistol grip are not Yugo. You're has the Yugo night sights, too! Flip them up and see if the tritium is still live. The one on the front sight tower folds up, and the rear ones can be folded up as well. Interesting ont he RPK bumps being gone.

The Yugo SKS and AK use the same awesome sling with the steel clip in the front. keeps gas tube emissions from eating the sling for breakfast. Numerich sells them.

Nice Yugo...My Yugo grouped about 4-5inch pattern at 50 yds off the bench, using cheapo Wolf ammo. of the 30 rnds, 12 were in the bulls. That's using Iron sights.

It totally outshot my WASR 10 witht he same ammo and range.

My Yugo was improperly riveted, and I need to fix it tho...bad news.

Henry, I have two underfolding yugo kits, one with the bulged trunion and the other one without it. Thus they made both types.

glad you guys liked the photos.

yeah, i flipped the night sights up the first day and ran into the closet, closing the door to see if i had anything... YEP!!! they glow!!! not enought to really be useful i think

as for the photos, my friend took about 7/10 of them. he's the new photo editor here at the baylor paper, and he's not bad at it at all too! i'm just glad i have someone to shoot with who's in to photos, so now i get to have nice photos of me shooting!

and yeah, i don't even know what sling that is, looks cool, but i doubt it's original yugo, it's got a crown on it

Henry, on getting the rifle to group, did you try to clean the bore well, that might help if you could rig up the electronic cleaner and see if the bore is fowled with copper or other cladding materials too. I think it was M1 that had the post on the old forum that his bore on the beater yugo sks cleaned up well with it.

but i thought this AK grouped fine for what it was. why? do i need to work on it more?

As I recall from the Texas shoot, Henry, you have super vision and don't need a scope out to 300 yards to hit. And hit. And hit. You just handle guns REALLY well!

(and take good pics. Has Perro asked you for lessons yet?)

I think for a "sort of" sewer-pipe barrel, thats really not bad at all. I'd like to see what you could do with a few rounds of match ammo

I haven't had a chance to bench mine yet unfortunately

Just was due to your comment on sewer pipe look on the bore, I thought you wanted tighter groups still. :)

My Yugos are about my best shooters. And they will group better than that, or they should anyhow.

Here is an old target, with different guns at 50 yds. Yes it will open up a bit at 100, but not much. Yugo is on the bottom right, Romy AK upper right, G3 center, SKS Para lower right, don't remember what was on the upper left...

And that is after shooting most of the day, and I was TIRED!!!!! Had gone thru close to 1000 rds of 308, 45, 9mm, and 7.62x39 at that point....

Good times! :bubba:

....speaking of AK's...

This is a below average group out of my 308 Saiga at 100yds, SA surplus and 30 mph crosswind...

They can do ok.... :gang1: :machinegun:

I recognie that target! It is from Mytargets.com or somesuch website...

The thing I noted when downlloading targets from the internet is that wheny uo right click it to save, the dialog box says, "save target as..."
