How do the counter bored 91/30's compare in accuracy to original crowned rifles? I know they counter bore them due to poor muzzle condition which may also accompany poor rifling but local place has counter bored rifles with accessories in "good" condition on sale for $89 and I would like to get a few to put back. How work intensive is it to clean the counter bored area if your shooting corrosive ammo?

I have a good condition 91/30 that retains original muzzle and it shoots rather well for what it is.

They should be on par with or better than non CB counterparts, the crown won't be nicked, that's for sure. Cleaning should be the same, hot water to get rid of the salts then cleaner and oil, just make sure you get a mop or something down in to the CB to get any water out. Rubbing alcohol is great at driving water out, too.

A CB isn't on my list of things to worry about on a Mosin. If its got it, fine, if not, cool. If the rest of the rifle is good, then go with it. Unless of course it bothers you for aesthetic reasons or something. Just remember with a counter bore, the bad part of the rifling is gone, and now the most important part of it is protected from further damage.

I would rather have a good shooting counterbored Mosin, than a bad shooting Mosin that might be bad because it needs to be counterbored.

Thats kinda what I was thinking...I just didn't know how well Ivan did the work on them.
