View Full Version : Need Advice: What's a Good Rear Sight for an A3?

I have a new A3 (flat-top) upper, and 2 m4 kits coming, that I need rear sights for. BUIS, I guess they are called, generically. Something to clamp on the upper receiver rail, behind any optics I might install. All of these rifles are equipped with the standard AR front sight.
I absolutely won't spend a hundred bucks each, and hate to spend even $60 or $70.
Anybody care to give me the benefit of your experience with some of the "under $50" options available? I've read some reviews on vendor websites. Probably will avoid the UTG flip-up A2 style--some say that recoil makes it flip down. The Magpul is made from plastic, not sure I want anything that isn't metal.
Tell me what you like. Thanx.

The MBUS sounds like exactly what you're looking for. They're as cheap as you're going to get with out massive amounts of suck.

No complaints about mine so far. Plan on putting a set on my S&W M&P15-22 when the Gen II's come out.

Here's another I'm considering: http://jtdistributing.net/store/sights_rear.html
At the bottom of the page, the YHM flip and fixed.
Anyone have experience with either?

If you have time and live near an Army Base, look for someone that cleans out apartments after the soldiers leave for deployment, assignment, etc.
they leave a lot of NEAT STUFF behind.
A co worker and his wife clean apts around Ft. Campbell, I have got 2 nice BUIS, magazines, other assorted gear. you can't beat the price

Go with the Magpul. UTG is hit or miss although my rear buis runs perfect. The solid rear one I had need the clamp bent just to hold my receiver. It worked fine after that. I keep meaning to swap for the Magpul but my local guy has been bit by the gunshow bug and is gone on the weekends.

I recently bought a GG&G rear BUIS off ebay for $60.00 in the original package. I like them but I wish I had the rear elevation knob.
Look around you would be surprised what is out there for a steal.
