I was running an anodize job and dinking with some gun parts when the idea came to me. The G3 alloy mags may be a decent grade of aluminum that would anodize good or at least decent. I've done aftermarket 25rd mags for 10-22's before in several different colors. Who knows maybe someone wants other than black. I'm re-doing the worst of the 100 I got from Tapco for myself in black. If any of you would be interested in a color besides black I'll run some in other colors and put up pics to see if you like. I have 26 different colors even flourescent pink for the real men. The first trial was in a turquoise. Here'sa better pic.

Id like to see what OD green would look like in anodizing... if you could run 1 in that and take a picture of it outside in the sunlight, I might send a few your way!

I was just gonna paint the mags to match my rifle, but thatd be a nice touch to have the metal treated rather than hitting it with rustoleum.

I've got OD green. You don't want the hot pink? lol
Also have blues, reds, yellows, golds, browns, greens, grays.
Here's a pic of the 10-22 mags gone to Alaska. There's at least 1 real man there. The colors will vary with material grade. The 10-22 mags are 6061 which is one of the best grades to anodize.

Another anodizer on the boards sweet. Roomate and I just got outta the anodizing business, we did a ton of paintball guns and such. SS I think we have some dyes left that are unopened, dont know how big your shop is or what you use but hey if you wanted em we could probably donate

I have a small set up. A 60 gallon tank and use Caswell products mostly.
Always open to donations for the cause or bartering.

SSwee, do you do parkerizing too?

I'm going to but have to get the chemicals. It's not much difference to some of the plating/coating/finishing that I do now. I have some of my stuff I want to do and the list is growing daily. Anyone able to tell me where the best place is or the better brand to get I would greatly appreciate it.

I start out at $35 +shipping for small one run jobs. It takes a little over 3 hours for a run start to finish. Larger jobs I like to see a pic at least to bid. I have been looking at the parkerizing setup for awhile but still don't have a time frame yet. The other problem with doing gun parts is I only have a FFL03 so I'm not licensed to take in receivers or complete guns to work on or refinish. Accessories not a problem.

The mags are put out by a company called Tactical Innovations Inc. out of Idaho. They're offered in clear and black anodize for $65. I did those for a guy in Anchorage, AK. He's got a shop called Mizzou Mule Guns if I remember correctly

1 OD green 20rd mag. This is about a medium light. It's one of the colors that can go from a real pale to almost a black with a green tint.

you gonna sell any of the mags youve already done? if so, I call first crack at the OD ones... I couldnt afford $35, mainly just because Id only want a couple done, probably a couple of my better ones just for display basically, but its hard to spend that kinda cheese on a magazine I got for a buck. And I am by no means saying you are charging too much either, it just may not be for me.

It is really cool though... Im trying to find something aluminum that I need done so maybe I can justify the cost.

SSwee, is it $35 per job or $35 to turn the tank on?? how many magazines can you do at one time? like jfowl31 said i'm not saying you are charging to much because i don't know anything about the proccess or how much the materials cost , but if you can put 30 mags in the tank at one time does or would that bring the cost per mag down some?

thanks

Those aluminum bodied 10/22 mags are nice, they aint cheap, I think near the seventy dollar range each or more, but they arent going to break with use.

.... and the innards are user replaceable with commodity magazine innards...

What migh be cool would be a multi color one...

Hey Jfowl. I'd be willing to go in and we could both send aluminum 91 mags to be OD'd. I would like to do all my aluminum ones (about 12) since my 91 is done up in green furniture. pm me

We'll see how many he can fit in the tank at once, and I could probably cover the rest that it takes to fill it.

btw, Tapco has 50 for $70 right now... scratched and dented, could be perfect candidates.

btw, Id want mine darker than the last OD posted... if possible the same tint as WW2 OD.

Yea thats anodized...and...

Of course multi-color and fades and graphics are freakin annoying to do... although graphics on magazines would be fun

I am limited mostly by the size power supply I have. The largest I have is a 30V20A CC/CV. The problem is the more current I run the shorter the run time and a stronger coating but the less parts run at once. Running normal at 8A per square foot, I can run 3 mags at once for an hour and a half for a 1 mil coating.

ocharry,
Basically per tank the more parts in the tank at once the cheaper per part price within the limits of my PS.

jfowl31,
I'll do one darker first chance I get.

Now, for the guys here on the forum, I'll cut a deal on them. I trade for gun parts also.

I don't know what Tapco is selling for their G-3 mags. I got mine from www.robertrtg.com, and I was very pleased. No dents, dings, etc. all fully functional, and the worst ones had maybe 15-20% finish wear. I even got a number of NIW mags in the order. The best deal he has going is 200 for $300 shippedwhich is what I ordered. I split the order with a friend of mine, and another friend added 10 on top. All in all, I got 215 mags for 328.57 with the 3% surcharge. 200 for 300, and 10 for 19, and they threw in 5 extra....If anyone would like to see a pic, let me know, and I'll send one... BTW....I am in no way associated with them....Just a VERY satisfied customer...

Some different shades of OD green.

I like the darkest... looks closer to a true OD to me... but of course, the computer screen can play tricks.

SSwee

Not just the PC monitor but the lighting on the parts. That's why I put the three shots of the same set up at different angles. The darkest part looks best to me also. It almost has a black tint to it.
