The Great 308

I was part of the preorder at Top Notch for the US made MSG 90 stock by Special weapons. The preorder price was $137 shipped. I would like to start by saying that this part took for ever to get. How long you ask? How does 8 months sound to you? Yeah thats right I said 8 months!! Also I got the run around from Top Notch every time I called. They must have told me six different times that it would be ready in two weeks and I didn't even call the first time till after 3 months. Then one guy finally told me he was going to ship it out the next day. Two weeks later I called to see what happened and they said it still hadn't shipped yet . All of this and I was #50 on the order list! Anyway I finally got the stock 8 months after I ordered it.
Now if you are still reading here is the good part. I was very pleasantly supprised by the fit and finish of this stock. The material is simmilar to what my Choate stock is made of. The stock is fully adjustable for length of pull and check rest height. The locking nut looks just like the one on a real MSG 90 stock and takes a 6mm hex key. The stock comes with a recoil assembly and a buffer technologies buffer(edit 3/17/2006 these now come with a standard HK buffer rather that a Buffer Tech). I removed the buffer and was glad to see that the stock is drilled to accept the standard HK buffer. I ordered an HK Heavy two stage buffer from Gordon miller for $130 shipped. I have now enlarged the buffer hole to fit the heavy HK two stage buffer and installed it. Also The butt pad is fairly slick to remedy this I bought an E&L rubber slip on butt pad I trimmed it to fit and epoxyed it in place. It looks alot like the HK 21 rubber butt pad. So for a total of $282 I have an awsome buttstock!! Now if they will get them in stock so others can buy them it would be great.
I finally took both of my PTR91s to the range in the summer of 2006 but only three times. I would like to report back that all of the modifications that I had done to my rifles worked really well! The MSG90 clone stock with the E&L butt pad and the HK heavy two stage buffer greatly reduces the felt recoil. I also added an IGF muzzle break and Williams set trigger and a TSC vented wide forearm. All I can really say is this rifle is an absolute dream to shoot. The Williams set trigger is smooth, crisp and light! Unfortunately I have not had time to get the scope sighted in so I do not have pics of targets to post yet In the spring and summer of 2007 I plan on getting in some real range time with this rifle and seeing what it can really do. I will keep you updated. Also I recently purchased a MAG-PUL PRS2 stock which I modified with a two stage heavy HK buffer. I will post pics and a how to on this modification soon.
