Any of you have a cure for it???? I didn't think so... I'm trying to restore a GEW71/84 Mauser, and there are more pits than metal on some of the parts. Luckily the reciever and barrel aren't too bad, not enough to effect strength.
But the trigger guard, butt plate and barrel bands are baaaaad!! What options do I have? If you start filing and sanding you gotta keep going or you might as well not do it. If you leave it alone and blue on top of it, it looks like crap and rust will start up again.
Rusty old car parts are alot easier, you can usually just sand blast 'em, powder coat 'em and bolt 'em back on.

I would suggest that you glass-bead or sand blast it, fill the pits, and then DuraCoat it. There is a DuraCoat color which closely matches bluing. DuraCoat is very easy to apply.

Something like that that you probly will never get back to 100% anyway, I would sand a little, just to get a portion of the pits out, then sand blast and put on Gun-Kote or Dura- coat.

That's a good idea, I've used Dura-coat on new stuff...My AMD-65 is Duracoated... I think I'll try it. You are right, it's for fun and display, not for resale value! Thanks!!
