All of Ft. Hood is shut down until 10am tomorrow. Schools are closing early. People are hoarding food and water. The barracks are now a disorganized, rolling snowball firefight. Casualties have been high, but the medics are making a snow aid station and triaging them accordingly.
I thought it was pretty cool, but everybody thinks I'm nuts. Apparently down here an inch of snow is like Armageddon.

No lie, flakes the size of golfballs. We were in class and got shut down. Braving the roads home will be an adventure. Luckily for me I have years of Illinois winter driving experience under my belt.

What I learned in 10 years at Ft Hood....
1. People panic at snow and ice
2. They try to drive anyway
3. They crash
Even after living in Alaska...I didn't drive with those yahoos on the road. Be careful fellas.
And have some FUN!
Phirebug, did you get your Snow Action Badge for actions in the barracks?

Yea it was light flurries and it didn't stick. The snow in 79 i think was just about two inches and the streets were a wreckfest.
Phirebug don't feel like the lone ranger around here they do the same thing. They run to the gas station and then to the store to stock up on milk and bread. Now i don't know about you but milk and bread taste horrible.:icon_biggrin:

Well Phire, I don't have authority for those awards, but I'll happily hand you a Snow Cone Badge for your hard work today facing the blizzard.

HAHAHAHAHHAHA Thats awsome. Heard from my gunner that within the first hour or so there was 9 wrecks from Harker Heights to post. When I left there was a bad one on North Ave.
Why do people insist on driving without headlights on during bad weather? And no one cleans the snow off thier vehicles so they are camoflauged and it flies off and hits other cars. Meh, Im home and not going back till 1000 tomorrow.

Wait until tomorrow morning when all the idiots try to hit post at 0955. Once this stuff freezes tonight it'll be a mess.

I wanna be a sled-borne Ranger
I wanna live a life of danger....
etc:icon_biggrin:
If you need some ice to go with that pitifull amount of snow, we up here in the frozen city Des Moines can sure help you. I have not seen my back yard in some time as there is 1 to 3 feet of snow and packed snow all over it. Not to mention the ice.
I thought leaving Wisconsin the winters would be milder, Iowa is as bad or worse than Wisconsin ever was.
Have fun with all the folks there who think it is fun to slide all over the road because they have never driven in snow. But be careful too.
