Looking for a load or any one with experience working up (7.62×39) with
.310" 123 gr TSX BT bullets. I am taking my son hunting for the first time in condor country. Looking to do our part in thinning the wild boar population. I know it would be easier to hunt with a more popular round but I am Mil Surp junkie and this is the most comfortable round I currently have in the arsenal for my son to shoot. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

i use hodgdon 4198 powder. starting load is 17.2 gr.to a max of 25.7 with 123 gr. bullets. start low and work your way up, as i don't know what you are shooting this load in. normal disclaimers apply. :2pistol:

I use a 123gr FMJ bullet over 25.5 grains of AA-1680 powder ignited by CCI#34 primers. If I can't get that powder I substitute 30 grains of H-335 powder. These loads worked for me in my rifle. A prudent handloader would start 10% below any recommended powder charge and work up in 1/2 grain increments watching for signs of excessive pressure. In any case, my experience with this load may not be yours and I bear no responsibility for what you may choose to do with this data.
I use either IMI or Federal brass.

If you call Barnes they will give you the load data you need,I don't have to use the Barnes brand of bullets where I live so I can't really pass on any load data on them. The all copper bullets are just a bit different as far as pressure and velocity compared to there cooper and lead counterparts of same weight and design.
AA1680,IMR or H4198 and Reloader#7 will give you the best velocity vs. powder density. H335 is a good powder but requires about 8.0 grs. more and compressed to equal the other three powders MAX velocity using a 123 gr. bullet.
Since your using a pump X39 you should be fine using the non mil-spec primers since your bolt speed will be nowhere close to the bolt cycle speed of the semi auto version.

I found that the coper is a different beast between the greater OAL the increased baring surface the different twist rate to stabilize the bullet, the different trajectory. I decided I am to new to reloading to
take this on at this time. I did find a source on line after hours of searching that can get them to me before my hunt. Again thank you for the responses.

Make sure you use CCI # 34 primers in any rifle that has a floating firing pin. You do not want a slamfire. AA-1680 was made for the 7.62X39 round. Good luck.

The CCI#34 LR primers are designated as Magnum primer by CCI I use them in my X39 loads you should at least back off the max load by 10% and work up.
If the CCI mil-spec primers are not available you can use Wolf LRM primers, the Wolf primer are not magnum primers but are designated so by a harder primer cup than there standard LR primers.
Regardless of which primer you use make sure you seat them fully in the primer pocket and have no high primers.
How to check you primer seat.

That's true for semi-auto rifles using large rifle primers. For semi-auto calibers that use small rifle primers (5.56/.223 and .30 carbine) use CCI # 41 primers.
