Before this thread spirals out of control. IMHO the picture is meant to be humorous based on current world events rather than the totality of history.

I think that most will agree that the majority of people who call themselves muslim treat their religion like the majority of christians...("I go to church on christmas and easter and thats good enough for me")

While a faction of muslims (collectively known as terrorists) are using force to convert by the sword there is not a similar group of christians CURRENTLY killing in the name of relegion... Well except for abortion doctors, but that was several years ago. Even the "Christian Identity" (WCOC) members are behaving themselves compared to the terrorists.

Well if you count the ethnic clensing and wars in the former yugoslavia, some of it continues today, and the israelies just seventy years ago. Its more current than everyone thinks. Heck Northern Ireland just a couple of years ago too.

Call me crazy but I thought "the irish problem" as the english call it was more about self-rule than relgion. Same thing with yugoslavia. Although the participants are cleanly split along ethnic (and religious) lines the issue at hand with those was form of government rather than relegion.

Wanna hear about ethnic cleansing ask a (insert tribe name here) native american. The US federal Government made treaties with the natives, than when it suited them they broke the treaties.

Adding humor back to this thread. Have you ever noticed that all of the great battles of westward expansion are now marked with an Army base or an indian reservation. Yep thats right-They fought and the loser had to stay.

tanstaafl4y, not trying to be too serious, but folks take ideas which some find humorious and get serious.(the europian cartoon of allah with a bomb)for example) The political divisions among the groups, northern ireland(boils down to religion caused the rife and is still a divideing line), and Yugoslavia, were only political due to the religious issues, thus they are hard to ever seperate the two. The same in the middle east.

I'm not saying that I disagree with you, and I'm not solely playing devils advocate here another example to add to the list would be the US Civil War what was the issue being addressed: The Institution of Slavery or States rights?

In many peoples mind both are inseperable but some historians have said that Lincoln was not an abolitionist until it became politically useful.

I was going to say write meodocre science fiction and turn freudian psycoanalysis (sp) into fun-to-do pop psyology, but as was pointed out that was taken.

Lemme go mix up a batch of flavor-aid and see what I can think of.

Once you get it down, you could come to Oklahoma, open a rehab center in a former resort on a state park, then buy the largest hotel in town, take it off the tax rolls and then leave it vacant for two years, createing a huge hotel room shortage here. But wait someone else did that already with the same notion of religion. But heck it was funny when a famous stars aircraft tried to land where I work on an ammo stuffing pad, while coming to town, to give a pep talk at the rehab center.
