This is my Springfield. I found it at an antique store about 19 years ago for $200 without the bayonet. Rifling still looks pretty good. I bought some commercial Remington that was made to be used in these old guns and couldn't take any more Punishment after 9 shots and hung it on a wall. I checked out the serial number back when I first got it and IIRC it came from the 10th NY infantry. I believe it is an 1881 model based on the sights, there again, I haven't done anything but dust it for a very long time.

Can you send me that image? I have access to a poster printer, and LOVE cool pictures like that. Or just let me know where you found it. I'd like to find some with other calibers too.

1891 Springfield 45-70 Trapdoor with Rod Bayonet. My Great Grandfather carried a trapdoor during the Spanish American War - his guard unit was called up for duty. This one came out of a old private collection and looks almost unused.

I am picking up a 1873 Trapdoor with bayonet at the end of this month. It is in excellant condition, but not good as this one. I was just plan lucky. The seller tried to backout on the 1891 model, but owed me some favors and in the end let me have it.

Very nice, I really love these old guns. I have a couple more I'll post one of these days.

Can I still show off my BPCR even if I'm not done building it yet ? This is an ongoing project I'm working on in my shop. I started off with a rusty 1902 smokeless action RB. I engraved it, color case hardened it, and now am cutting out a nice stock. I'll make a barrel from a blank and chamber it for .50-95 Winchester.

I recently bought a Remington .43 cal Egyptian rolling block. Actually has a good bore. Can you make it pretty like yours, lol! I have 4 of these old BPCR rifles, really neat and will have to stay as they are. I don't have your talent
to even think about building one.

Those 43 Egyptian guns are pretty solid, like all others are. I used to have one back when they were dirt cheap. I remember going into a gunshop and seeing these piled up in a barrel in the middle of the aisle. I should've bought them all when I could !
As I work more on this gun, I'll post more pics here on the forum. Where would be a good place to put it ? SHould I start another thread for this project ?

I would think that would be OK, but I am a new guy too. I would like to follow a project on its' own thread. These are a great bunch of guys and if what you do is reasonable I am sure they
will go along with it.

I picked up my second Springfield trapdoor (1873 era). I had to backup so far to get the full rifle with bayonet in the frame that the 1st photo of it makes the stock look dark. It is in excellent condition,
though not as nice as the one I showed a couple of posts earlier. The military photo is of my Great Grandfather in 1897 with his unit carrying trapdoors. If you look at the guy sitting on the left front my
Great Grandfather was the 1st Guy to the right behind him. Should be a small x on his uniform for family ID. I have a 1898 Spanish American War picture of him and his unit deployed and in Florida, again
carrying trapdoors.

Two more BPCR rifles. A 1874 Martini Henry 577-450 cal. One of those that came from the Kingdom of Nepal. The second is a Remington rolling block (1870 era) built for the Egyptian Army .43 cal. It looks to
have a good bore, which is a hard find in these old Egyptian guns.

That Martini ammo might be worth more than the gun. Better hang onto it !
