I have a WASR 10 that is 922r compliant, and I wanna add a US made sidefolder and there are a few out there mabbe worth checking out...Ace, CHoate, etc.

Anybody added one of these (or another mentioned) to their AK?

Thx in adv,

Steely

Ace is the best aftermarket stock (side folding or otw) imho (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&defl=en&q=define:IMHO&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title).

I would agree, for aftermarket the ace is good stuff. Didnt know chote even made a folder for the ak. I wouldn't recomend the tapco, even though I have one somewhere.

The romanian or east german are good folders, but just dont feel right(when you shoot them more Ineed to get a add on butt pad and see what that does for the feel, but they do look good especally folded), The nice stamped steel folders look good, but I don't think they are a screw on fixture, I think you have to change out trunions and such. This is a example that Naloith had for sale.

Steelcore, if yours is a standard WASR, the stock should be imported so you can use one of the imported stocks too, and stay compliant.

I too have been looking into this as I will be getting an AK this weekend(maybe) and I would like a side folder. My only thing is I want one that folds to the left side and can be shot with it folded. Any help would be great. I like the ace ones but can't tell which way they fold?!?!?

They fold both ways. It's all how you bolt up the thing...

Those require not only a whole 'nother rear trunnion, but they require you to drill a hole in your front trunnion for the front stock latch (or have a front trunnion that was made with the hole), and have the front stock latch assembly.

Darkwatch, I think but am not sure, but I thought the aces could be set up to fold either way(the folder, I think sits between the stock adaptor, and the stock, I believe that you just turn it over to change the direction of fold). That said it aint real confortable to shoot my wasr, with the romanian folder, folded either.

Ya but thats still the best looking folding assembly out there. Atleast in my opnion.

Imho, it's the best factory folder, too. They lock up solid and offer the same 'feel' as a regular fixed stock.

Ace are nice but kind of expensive.

I had a Rus stamped triangle type when they fist came into the country , about four or so years ago.Sent it back because IMHO it seemed to flimsy. I mean I could of grabbed it by the butt and twisted it into a pretzel. For 150$ it was not want I wanted. However as a collector they are correct on certain variants .

The best deal for a WASR would be a Romy side folder for 49$ I got one back when they were welded open, and have since converted it back to folding. I have since gotton a few more since then, I find them superior to the German,or Polish of which I have a couple.

They are tough, idiot proof and look good. They come in lever and pushbutton types,I have both and prefer the lever If you find it too short for length of pull you can always add a grenade pad.

Here is a pic of one on my jazzed up WASR. I like to play around with the WASRs as they are a non military varient. I put an AR rail on the lower handguard, this was back before anyone sold a handguard of this sort.

Remember, AK's are like lays, you cannot own just one.
Just on the ACE, dang thats alot of money for a part, admittaly they can go on almost any rifle, with a modular mounting plate to include the cetme/g-3 but still pricy.

The romanian folders though still expensive are about half a ace system.

"best deal for a WASR would be a Romy side folder for 49$"

ORLY? Whaer does on ecquire that? Also does it just screw in, in place of the normal WASR buttstock? THat would be the way I'd wanna go...no BSing with drilling or riveting...no mods if possible (minor fitting OK)

Yes it just replaces the butt stock you have now,no mods. You may have to go to the hardware store and get a couple of metric screws if they are not included.Less then 1.50$

A romy side folder just screws in, take off the old butt stock and screw on the folder.

Shop around, more places than DPH have em (i've seen em cheaper, too)

And yes, they're a direct replacement for the wood stock

Not sure where you got yours, but mine can be slammed open and smacked shut. I don't find it flimsy at all, and it has much better ergonomics than the military wire add-on sidefolders.

Look at how it locks up (http://www.novarata.net/abrams/aks74/aks-74_475.JPG)

The Romy side folder also allows one to shoot the rifle even with the folder folded. Mine has the push button and they are pretty idiot proof.

Dude I had one. A Russian one. From K-varr. 150$ In my opinion it is flimsy,if you don't agree, that is fine.

First one to find them cheaper needs to post a link back in this thread. I'm going to scour the net also.

Another one for Ace. I used one on my first AK build, and everyone who has ever even touched it can tell there's not much better. Remember, they're modular, so all the pieces of it are separate (actual stock, mounting hardware, folder).. If you go with one, I highly recommend the internal receiver block. You'll need to cut the tang off the rear trunion, but its well worth it. I had the bolt on at first, because I didnt want to cut the tang. It was good because it was Ace, but it was shit in comparison to the other. Plus it added probably an inch and a half overall.

Any one find a cheaper price on the Romy sidefolder? I need a couple more.

The only others I found in "web stores" were listing at $80 and $150 (WTF?!?)

I don't remember the links but they wernot major suppliers.

I'm gonna get a harem then! (oh, right Lays Potato chips...):056:

Thanks for the link, that looks like the thing I want...one more question tho K98...How's the cheek weld on it? Similar to the polish and Yugo underfolders? I didn't bother me to put my cheek on those...I suppose this would be similar?

k98k792

More of a chin weld then a cheek weld. The older button type has the stock to the left a bit. The newer lever type has the stock inline with the center of the weapon.
I like to put some 1/2 inch OD black vinyl tubing on them for comforts sake.
( see my previous WASR pic)
Now if you want to use optics with magnafication, one of the 9$ drag stocks would work better. I like to mod them into a skeleton stock. They give you some comb height..
If you plan on using a non magnification reddot type, the Romy folder would be fine,as eye placement is not as crtical.
For open sights it seems to work fine, within the limitations of the weapon.

Here is a pic of a moded drag type stock. Centerfire has them, just a bit of cutting is required.
