I just purchased 120 rounds of the subject ammo from CDNN. It is brass cased, boxer primed, non-corrosive 7.62 x 54R ammo that CDNN claims is an overrun from a US Govt contract. It looks new and bright and shoots well. The head stamp bears the letters JMS at twelve o'clock and the number 21 at six o'clock.
Does anyone know who made this stuff, who it was made for, when it was made, and why?

I saw something similar at one of my distributors. The stuff I saw was in 420rd tins, brass case, boxer primed, was supposed to be 2002-2003 production. Not sure if it's the same you saw, but I'm gonna grab some while I can. I sold my PSL, but the Mosins are still hungry.

I finally got some in. 15rd cardboard boxes. Headstamps are JMS 02. Stuff looks good. Very clean, annealed cases. After my show this weekend, I will pull some of the bullets and take a look around inside. Here's some pictures.
My distributor has about 90K rounds left, but it's going at about 10K rds a week.
Hopefully I can pick up a few more cans before it's gone.

That is some pudy x54 ammo!
The box resembles some rpvi partisan ammo I bought at a gun show a while back... Did you ever find out a manufacturer?

The US making 762x54R?!?!? Nofa-king way!
"420 rnds for $189.95"
-->Wow...spendy for what normally costs 8-11cents per round, man...almost 50 cents? I hope it is accurate for the price. S&B sell theirs for that price, IIRC, and it is hunting accurate.
It is mighty shiny.

The US has been manufacturing commie ammunition for decades. If you look around you can find US Gov't manufactured 7.62x39, too.

WOw...I had NO idea...I guess I mean as milsurp ammo, but you are right, I've seen some US makers of hi-quality ammo make SP, JHP, and FMJ for use in these calibers.

If that was made for the US army, above the board and not black program ammo, there should be a dodic, and a NSN some where marking the items. I am guessing with the lot number dateing to 02 and the lack of markings, the stuff is some eastern europian made ammo, for military, due to the ball loading. My first guess looking at the boxes was Bosinan. It might be the same folks makeing the wolf gold ammo.

From the anneled cases, that stuff wasnt made for uncle ivans nagant rifle, it was made for either a machine gun, or automatic rifle in mind. I am guessing the latter due to the packing though, in boxes. Remember by 2002 most of the eastern bloc was trying or getting admited to nato. That is some good looking stuff though.

Let me gauge some interest on this. I don't normally sell ammo, but I can. I should be able to sell it for $149.00 for a 420 round can. Shipping would be actual UPS Ground from 33823. Each can weighs about 32 pounds.
I can get about 200 cans at the moment.
Anyone interested?

I just saw on another forum that this ammo was supposedly made for Uncle Sugar by Igman (http://www.igman.com/ammunition/)

GearShanty, can I get some specs for this stuff? Might be worth pulling the bullets and adding a nice Hornady or Speer hunting bullet. Just a thought since brass alone is going through the roof. I may be in for a can. Thanks

It must be for the Afgans and Iraq Army. They would have a mountain of Soviet machineguns still in use.

If you could post velocity and bullet weight, if possible, I'd be curious to see that. Thanks

I went on a ammo spending spree a bit ago. The only thing I haven't stocked up on yet are 30-06, 9mak, and 7.62x25. Thank God I have a designated gun room to keep everything now.

I sold one can at the Gunshow last week. I have one more can to take to this weekend's show. I imagine that I will be ordering some more late next week.
I will let you know.

I might beinterested in trying some, but I don't fancy the 33cents per price...GS, at least you are able to undersell some folks!
I might be intreseted in a sub-buy, of maybe 40-80 rounds for testing an eval, if someone wants to bother with parting out a few rnds.
Just wanna see if it reacts diff than the other ammos I have.
I'm gonna compare some 762x54 rounds thru the Mosin this wknd.

I have been stockpiling the Greek HXP 30-06 and the LC de-linked.
Like everything the price just keeps going up.
If you can't find the czech silvertip 7.62x54R anymore it's probably due to all the cases of it in my basement :-)

Sorry guys for the delay.
The ammo is $150.00 for 420 rounds + UPS Ground shipping. My shopping cart will calculate the shipping cost.
180gr lead core FMJ, brass cased, boxer primed, comes in 15rd carboard boxes in a metal ammo can.
You can find it here:

Thanks guys and contact me with any questions.
