Hi, I am a new member and new to the world of HK and CETME. I would like some information on a rifle, a Century Arms C91 Sporter. I can find lots of post about Century Arms CETME but I can't seem to find out much about the C91. The main difference I can see is the rear sight and the safety. Can anyone share any info about this rifle? When Century made them and the quality of the builds compared to the CETME?

To my knowledge, Century hasn't made them in a few years.

They are G3 clones built from HKG3 parts sets. They have different problems then a Cetme. Most of these were built from matched parts kits instead of mismatched parts. Either way, same Century quality.

Welcome Aboard!!!

Most of the owner reviews I have seen say "save up the few extra bucks needed and buy a PTR instead."

It appears to all be based on dissatisfaction over Century's quality control... or lack thereof.

There are 2 types of C91's much like there are 2 types of CETME's from Century Arms. Majority of Century C91's have the stamped receiver but they had a cast stainless steel model much like the CETME has a cast and stamped model.

If you look at it in a budget perspective, a C91 can cost about $550-600 (what I've seen them sell for on gunbroker since Jan this year til now) versus an HK91 that can run around $2,000-4,000 or a PTR91 around $900-1,200. Assuming you can work out any problems you encounter you'll have a decent rifle for half the cost of the HK model.

Thank you all for the information. It looks like Century just has a quality control problem. Can any one say if the stamped C91 has the same problems with the scope mounts not staying put on the receiver as the CETME does? I would love to get a PTR 91 but I just can't swing that kind of money at this time. I guess it comes down to you get what you pay for. Thanks again for every ones help.

I've never heard of scope mounting problems on a C91 but there isn't as much info/experience with them.

I going to speculate that a mount should work because the C91 receiver has the "seat" in front of the rear right unlike the CETME so it should be ok.

i bought 2 of them for well under what one ptr would have cost me. never had a problem with one of them. the other was tight on alum mags. a few swipes with a file across the bottom of the mag well and all was well.

never tried to mount a scope on them, so i cant help you there.

A couple of years ago ,I ordered a G3 clone from century and I got according to the Mag well a C91 with a serial # starting with G3#####.It was a single shot when I got it. I sent it back to century and got it 7 weeks later with a replace bolt carrier and bolt head and it has been 100% since and a tack driver.

We all critize century, but if you understand how they made builds, and if like stated used matched parts sets, aslong as the rifle the kit came from was within spec, there build should have been. They did not do anything but remove the receiver stubs from the trunions then set the trunions into the receivers and welded them into place.
