Ok, help me out. I know I've seen the US made muzzle nuts before but can't seem to find them now.
Thanks,

Thanks nalioth! That's what I was looking for. I thought I'd checked k-var, but guess I missed it. Here's the link just in case anyone else is looking, k-var part #AK-040US BARREL NUT ~ US made 14X1 LH thread.

What's the point of threading a barrel and then simply putting a nut on the end? Why wouldn't you put a flash hider or brake on it? I'm sure they had a reason to do it.

Some folks want to build their AKs as accurately reproduced as possible.
Some early AKs/RPKs came with muzzle nuts, instead of any kind of brake. This makes sense with an RPK (bipod in use, very little muzzle climb/movement).

Ok. I guess they threaded the muzzles just in case then? I was just always confused as to why they would thread the muzzle and then just slap a nut on there. I understand now.

Was watching some show, on the military channel, and all of the ak's had blank adaptors, guess the folks there didnt even try to hide them, they were brightly painted, to show they are on the rifle.

If you look closely at combat pics, most Ak 47s and AKMs around the world have muzzle nuts on them.
