I'm trying to put a Kar98 back together from pieces that I had laying around. I got a beatup stock from a guy locally for $10.00 the only metal that it had on it was the flat butt plate, recoil lug, bolt takedown discs and nose piece/bayonet lug.
I have the right sort of barrel band with the side sling swivel, but I need a top barrel band. I just don't know which one is the right type for the rifle. Since it is a 1938-39 stock, I assume the milled H style but does anyone know for sure?
What do you guys think? I'll post pics of the nose piece bayonet lug this evening.

No, the stock looks exactly like the one on top, down to the coloring and grain of the wood. The only thing different is the butt plate is flat, everything looks the same.
I'm just about positive the stock is a Russian Capture, there is a serial number stamped into the side of the butt, but the waffenampt marks on the stock and metal were defaced.
The waffenampt on the butt plate is an eagle over 63, on the nosepiece bayonet lug is a eagle over a 221 with a larger lowercase e below. The stock lug has a eagle over 656.
There is an H stamped into the side of the butt, I think that's supposed to mean "Heer" for Army.
There is a S stamped into the sling cut out.
I'm not sure what any of this means, I'm hoping that one of you guys will know what all this means.
It looks just like the two stocks at the top of this picture.
