I have a stamped receiver Century Arms CETME. Can I install a paddle mag release onto my rifle. And if so is there anywhere I can get detailed instructions on how to do this. Or is there anyone who can do this for me?

Here is Perro's method on a SS Cast receiver, I do not think it will work on a stamped model.

I had a Cetme with stamped receiver and I bought a Tac-Latch II. These go right in without any modifications and are completely legal. Also they only cost a little over $50. This is a great alternative to expensive gunsmithing.

Too bad the website says these won't work on a JLD/PTR91 receivers. :( :( Why was the government so afraid of the paddle mag release?

Cause the pin used for the paddle is the same size as the front trigger pack mount for the full auto... They have this saying in the ATF, once a machine gun, always a machine gun. Thats why they keep working to plug the parts market... First, it's the demill. then the 922s 10 parts rule... Then the old barrel proibition, then the general proabition of "Non Sporting and Military type Rifles".... The way I see it, If we get some of you Texas Ole boys to get into Boone and Crocket with some record pigs, white tails and poping the heads off record turkeys at 400 yards with the CETME, they'd have to admit it's a sporting rifle.. :D Pacifc coast blacktail deer ar the size of a damn small dog...

Not so much the paddle release, but the hole in the receiver through which the attachment tube was placed. That would allow a full auto grip frame to be installed if the shelf was cut off and the use of a full auto fire control group. If you have a little skill or know a machineist, the paddle can be added to a stamped receiver. Just remember to weld over the attachment pin holes so a FA grip assembly can't be attached there by a pin.

I have a Tac-Latch II on both of my PTRs. I put them on before Tac- Latch put that disclaimer on their site. I am not a lawyer and I do not have a letter from the ATF. However I do not see how installation on a SS Cetme or PTR could possibly violate the law since it does not require any holes and does not allow a select fire trigger group to be installed. All that is required is a very slight amount of grinding with a dremel tool to allow enough room for proper travel of the paddle. It takes less than ten min for the work and does not alter the receiver in any really substantial way. Once again I am not a lawyer and I do not pretend to be I am only using common sense and I know that that can sometimes get you in trouble when it comes to firearms laws.

Also I would like to say again that it takes absolutely no modification to put this on a stamped receiver Cetme. I have done it and it goes right in.

Im workin on that record hog you speak of. We've seen one MASSIVE hog on the land in Sabinal, that is just amazing. The first time I saw him, I thought it was a large calf. He's been shot on 3 different occasions, but what sucks is all 3 times it was with some small caliber round like 223, or 17 remington, and he just walked away like nothing happened. If I ever get the chance, itll either be with the Cetme or the 45-70, but I think only the 45 is gonna take it down. He's not quite the size of "hogzilla", but I bet hes 600 lbs easy.

Hey 308, you think you could post some how-to's on the tac-latch installation? maybe we could make that one a sticky or something. I never even knew that thin existed, until you started talking about it, but it looks like it would fit in nicely on my rifle... that and a carry handle, and maybe a port buffer, and maybe a new flashhider, and maybe a NAVY lower, and maybe a psg buttstock or one of the other sniper style butts........

it just never ends does it?

Hello Jfowl and RaccoonRough. I will post a how-to for the installation of the Tac-Latch II on a PTR91 which does require some slight grinding with a dremel. I will put it in the review section.

Mark Galla installed the flapper type magazine latches in both my stamped CETME and cast G3 receivers. The modifications are much the same and both work as originally designed.

There are several reasons to recommed the flapper magazine latch modification: (1) both rifles were designed for this to be the primary means of magazine change and (2) the push button release still functions and is a secondary means to change the magazines.

Perro's "how to do it" sticky should work for both. Once this modification is done it is permanent and does not permit the fitting of a FA trigger housing.

That is the original reason why the CETME "Sporter" and HK-91 were imported with clipped ears on the trigger housing, added the shelf, and lacked the flapper magazine latch. The push pin that goes through the ears of the CETME/G3 FA trigger housings is also the pivot pin for the flapper type magazine latch.
