Some sort of krebs ak, maybe a fixed magazine variant for Kali?

No sir, it's not a neutered AK.
It's a Krebs "Enhanced Speed Load Tactical Rifle", whatever that means. It probably weighs 8 pounds more than a standard AK, and can grate pounds of cheese every minute . . .

What is the purpose of the mag extension, to make it easier to insert mags, more like a ar?

I've never seen one in person, nor have I seen a writeup on any forums about how it's supposed to work.
Have no freaking idea how it's 'speedy' with a big ol' locking lug sticking off the back of the magazine. Even with the extended collar, you still have to insert the front of the mag and "rock it and lock it".

Looking at that photo, I dont think you could rock it in, the point on the trunion is much higher than the lower edge of that mag well, unless its hugely oversized and just giving you plenty of guideance or the front is open and just makes sure you get the mag in stright side to side. Would be interesting to see more pics or one in person.

I think krebs may start with them, why get something more expensive, if you are just going to remove all of the stuff and redo it anyway?

Yeah, a lot of your custom AK builders start with Saiga rifles.

"start out with a Saiga"
Start out with the one true Russian Izmash built rifle you can still get, and turn it into some sort of mall ninja AR wannabe clone?
Good plan!!!

They come as double stack, so they must have something inside to keep them from floping, I wonder if it doesnt eliminate the rotation and make it much like other deep mag well guns, like the cetme and ar series. Guess a front view of the mag well might make more sence.

I used to have a magazine with an article in it about this weapon system. Can't find it when I need it. If I remember correctly they started with bulgarian parts kits. It was modified this way to "bring the AK into the new century".If I ever find the magazine I'll post more info.

The converted Saiga I had,had some mag flop, with metal mags.Though not as much as the Wasr. It was my first Ak.I had it for two days. I returned it to the builder,a local licensed guy here in Mo. After 4 or 5 mags, the bullet guide bent when I inserted a mag in it.
Though that may not be the purpose for that mag well mod.

I guess I might have to look at mine at home, if I can find any of them. :) and see what holds the mags steady, I thought my 7.62x39 had dimples, but the 223, I dont think does.
Interesting that the bullet guide bent though, I had thought about a conversion, but now I have ak's in 5.56, 5.45, 7.62x39 thus the motivation went away.

That one in the second pic, says saiga right on the side for sure. That said they might have started with things made for various other ak variants.

The guy was cool about it,and took it back.He insisted that the metal he used was milspec and the proper thickness. I expect I inserted the mag wrong somehow. Swapped it out for a Wasr. That sucker is sill ticking. Best 300$ I ever spent.

Simple... because ya just never know when you might want to grate some cheese!!!
Or hang 30+ pounds of doodads and gadgets on your SHTF/Zombie defence weapon!!

I must admit that I have several rifles with T6's on them, but the Ms. likes to shoot also and it allows her to adjust to be comforatble. I DO NOT OWN A SINGLE CHEESE grater. The dam thing is heavy enough with a scope and a full 30 rounder.

I DO know that this is what all the well dressed mall ninjas are wearing these days. :1087:

Ya on that cheese grater rifle, the sight cost more than the rifle if its a real aimpoint. The ak is a great rifle but its that due to being simple and reliable. Bury one in the sand, knock the sand out and it functions, pack it with mud, wash it quickly with a spray of water, it functions. I guess every mall ninja needs to be tatical. Guess though the mujahaden didn't though.

For a fighting weapon, yes on a good optic, and maybe a foregrip, and a collapsible stock to fit the body armor and gear.
Lights, lasers, cameras, bells whistles and other crap you won't see unless you make a living breaking in buildings at night.
SteelCore
05-11-2007, 01:35 PM
yeah, and what is the purpose of putting a CQB sight waay up on the front? At that point, just put a big ring out there, it'll be as much use to ya, and a lot cheaper.
The only mod I think would really increase the accuracy of the AK would be somehting that increases the sight radius...and they already sell such things that bring the rear sight back to the back of the topcover.

I wonder if there would be any market for a REAL, rail-mount cheese grater? I bet they would sell. They would, of course, have additional rails on them for other stuff.
