Before y'all get all excited. Those kits DO NOT HAVE front or rear trunnions.
CFS has removed them and riveted them into their receivers for your convenience (and their bottom line).
You probably will not get matched trunnions to barrel.
So unless you have the facilities to reheadspace these, I call :bull: on CFS

you're still paying over 500USD for all parts involved, approaching 600total when you look at rivets, etc.
Ma..I shoulda bought one years ago, when TN guns was selling their ROMAK III builds for 500-600USD>
Oh, well. I still fire me Mosins!
[OT]
ANd in a historical note, the Russkis chose the venerable Mosin Nagant as their sniper rifle of choice for WWII, over the SVT series...the Russians felt that the SVT was problematic and a bit too delicate, and less accurate than the Mosins. That Mosin is one of the best deals out there.

Yes,you need to read the links I provided. That is why I posted them.
The thread on Gunboards, some of the posts by our own member and gunsmith Ken Kubin, explains about the trunions and what to do about them.
Facilities needed are a guage and a drill press.
Folks that build kits should have this sort of thing.
And yes I am excited about them.
How many chances are left to get a kit?

I wouldn't worry too much about it, one of the posts in the above discussion threads says that 'CFS was called and told the caller they were out of stock on all of that PSL stuff'.

CFS does'nt say on their site, but I'll bet that the reciever isn't US. And what about the FCG, and other compliance parts?
It does'nt show any FCG at all.

These don't need any compliance parts. They are not proscribed from importation in any way.

why did they cut the receivers to begin with

why did they cut the receivers to begin with
Now that is the million dollar question. All the PSL kits i've seen don't have cut receivers. Just parts w/o receiver scrap (no rivets in the trunnions, looks like all new parts)

You know, that shouldn't suprise me, but it does. Ban all these different military arms, but not a sniper rifle. Makes sense to me. NOT!
They must not be popular enough, or look as cool to gangs, or maybe not enough of a menacing look to gov. officials. Maybe I just think too much with the comon sense side of my brain.:icon_confused:

Otis61, These things come in as sporting rifles, the magazines available are ten rounders, none were made with higher capicties, thus like the Saigas and the WASR-10, all of these are ten round or less rifles, thus advoiding the requirements of 922r. Thats the logic on this idea. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I called on these kits yesterday. They said that they only have 100 kits at most, but may end up being 50 kits. They said that if you order the kit and receiver together, you will get matching numbers on the kit, trunnion and receiver.
As much talk as there is about these kits from CFS, I don't expect them to last long.

So by getting matching numbers on the kit + trunnion means that I should be able to press the barrel in and pin it in the existing trunnions hole and it should be correctly headspaced? I know I will have to check it with gauges, but my theory is correct?

Your theory is sound.

Your theory is sound.
But is it right?

But is it right?
Having a matching numbers kit doesn't guarantee the headspace will be right, but it does make for a very high probability of it.
All builds should be checked for headspace for safety.

But is it right?
Yes, with matching s/n you should have an almost bolt together, just like the thousands of AK kits around.
Still need to verify HS.

speaking of 922r, if i wanted to do this, would i have to get some us parts? or is the 10rd mag only still mean i dont need 922r parts?

The rifle in this thread is not under any restrictive laws. No US parts required. Have your way with it.

kevin is there a stock that will fit ( already made) or would it have to be a custom made stock?
i have a russian dragunov stock somewhere that could be used for a pattern, the russian dragunov is different where it goes into the rear trunion. i am thinking of using the front of the stock that is on there with the rear portion of the russian d. stock......... :airtight:
any ideas from anyone.
didn't someone here buy a router copier to make up some stock parts?

shari71 has one of those duplicators if my memory serves me today.
I think standard AK buttstock and pistol grip will fit the PSL. It uses a 1.6mm thick receiver shell, so a little trimming may be necessary.

Rear is different shape than standard AK, but I guess it could be trimmed. I wonder if Iron Wood Designs make anything

if you search on surplusrifle, a guy made several complete stock sets, he also move the thing on the gas tube so the hanguard and forearm were even at the front, it looked like a dragunov that way except for the space between the trigger and mag
i thought i might be able to make a stock set, for mine, ive made buttstocks and forearms for other rifles out of walnut and other wood before. The buttstock and forearm would be simple to make
i dont like his buttstock but he did a good job on his forearm and handguard, i would have used different wood!

i just tried to fit a ak butt stock on the rifle. no go, it would have to be made to fit the curve on the rear trunion.
i went to lumber liquidator last saturday to find some flooring (it is alreadt keiln dried. i didn't find what i wanted.
3 pieces= 5/8"T x 5-1/4" w x 13" long. i can cut them down and glue them together and run them thru a thickness plainer. this is for the stock
i was looking at some purple heart and some bloodwood that looked real good. ( not cheap)
you just have to buy a whole box of it. i may just get some and laminate it and then cut out the stock. i want the russian dragunov look on the stock and it to be about 2" longer.

Well, I just put 'em up here so folks could see the options (please don't bubba your PSL) for kit building. I don't see a need for a front grip in a 7.62x54r rifle, myself, but to each their own.

If I want to have a larger round in that style rifle, I'll stick with my 308 Saiga.
