My name is Walt. I live in Fort McCoy, FL. I am a gun guy. I enjoy all types of firearms. If it goes bang I am interested.

Fort McCoy is just outside of Ocala. It has been smokey on and off here too depending on the wind. I hope we get rain soon so the whole state doesn't burn to the ground.

Welcome Walt. I'm in Largo just outside Tampa. Smoke and ash was realbad here yesterday. Cleared out today. I've been thinking that all us Florida boys should have a get together somewhere central and do some shooting.

It would be nice for a group of us to get together and go shooting. I have too many irons in the fire so it will be a month or so before I can consider it myself. Right now I have about 8 or 9 rifles I either need to repair, refinish or finish building and plus I am working 6 days a week right now.

Yes, welcome indeed.

I am also in the Tampa Bay area.

If not a shoot, maybe we should all get togeather for a build party. I have a couple of G3s that are about ready to go togeather, plus my AK is getting lonely being the only one.

A build party sounds good. I have only built AK rifles so far and plan to build more as time and money allow. My build tools are very primitive though. I am interested in learning how to build other firearms as well. Is there anybody in the area good at refinishing such as parkerizing? I have several I will need done soon but have limited funds. I do appreciate everybody welcoming me here. I recognise a few here from AKforum.

I second that build party idea. Any ideas as to where and when? I'd be glad to help plan it.

I am set up for parkerizing up to 40" items. If you provide the chemicals, I have the tools to get it done.

I also have tools for building AK's (need to pick up a press anyway), and I also have a welder, compressor, and blast cabinet for those larger jobs.

I am willing to host the event, but I am not exactly the most central being in West Central Florida (Tampa Bay), but I have tools, and a garage to work in.

There are also plenty of reasonable hotels nearby if it turns out to be an all weekend affair.

Anything we plan will have to be sometime in late July as I am in Europe until at least the beginning of that month.

Also we can have a CETME/G3 clinic for those Florida owners who may have a hiccup or two that they want to straighten out.

Welcome Aboard, Walt!
I'm in Palmetto, Manatee County, not far from the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.
I also have never heard of Ft. McCoy.
I've got a couple of AK kits that need to get built, sooner or later; I've not no blanks or receivers at this point... kinda on the back burner, but I might get inspired if a build party was on the calendar.
Though I've been reluctant to mention it, my CETME has cracks in the receiver after 160 rounds.... I might do well to have some other folks eyeball it, although I'm sure it could be diagnosed right here ("Century Arms In'tl" is MY diagnosis,:century: but the cure needs to be more specific than that.)
Glad to see you here.

There is discussion of a central Florida build party on AKforum too. Maybe we can all get together and build away, or have 2 build parties. I will post a link if there is any interest and if it is allowed.

Randy, get with me in July about the cracks in your CETME if we don't get this meeting going.

That needs looking at.

Over on Akforum we are trying to plan a build party in Deleon Springs on either June 10th or 24th. If interested please contact me. Here is a link:

I know a build party has been brought up here also and maybe we can do 2 of them. RustyPirate mentioned possibly hosting one in late July. 2 parties would give more of a chance to accomplish more and it will give us a chance to meet others in the area. I hope it is alright that I posted this here.
