I thought after HS he would mope around the house and play X-box till he was 35....
Nope, he's up in Phx going through MEPS to Join the Air Force. I wish he went in after college as an officer but I still have to give him props!

Crongrats on your son and he can go to college after his enlistment.
By then he will be more mature about the whole college thing. My nephew went in the Army as an enlisted troop and after his enlistment they are paying for his college at the the University of Colorado. If he had went to college 5 years ago he would have more than likely failed. Now he takes it serious. It will work out for your son and the AF is a great branch of Service!( imo.. Good quarters and the best EM clubs)

Congrats DaCapster!
As Norton said, you can always try to talk him into going to college after his enlistment, and it may be for the better that he waited. It will be much easier to pay for college with his savings that he will have built-up and the GI Bill.
Also, some kids just aren't ready for college straight out of high school. I have many friends that dropped out their freshman year after discovering that they weren't yet mature enough to handle it, and others decided after a semester or two that the college route just wasn't for them.

It'll definitely be easier to pay for college afterwards.

The ASVAB was a fun test, although it was a cake-walk compared to the SATS.

Heh, I had to retake it when I went through MEPS again last month, finished first and still scored a 93... I overheard somebody wondering how that's possible.
Good for him though, hope he can find a slot he likes.

The average score in Tucson is like 18-34.... Back in 85 I think I got a 93/94 anf thought I could walk on water(didn't take me cause I pussed out ) asthma)

Good for the little DaCapster. Definitely a good move in my opinion, military first then college. They seem to gain enough responsibility during their trip through the service to be better students later on, and the money they get for college is nothing to sneeze at.

If I'd known I had asthma in 1975, they wouldn't have taken me either. Now my asthma is worse but I'm too valuable to get rid of. Go figure. Tell your son to get into a job where he's unlikely to end up in my head injury clinic. I recommend x-ray tech or chaplain's assistant. I'm not being snarky...everybody in the Air Force has a part in getting the job done and I've recently seen enough postconcussion syndrome to last me for a while.

Congrats!!! I kind of hope mine will wait till after college too. But we're not in total control of that. The best we can hope for is that they do things somewhat the way we would want them to. Sounds like yours is doing real well.

I've already begun setting post hi-school expectations with my daughter (age 7)...mil or college. It's still baffling to her how I put her mum (my ex) thru college, and she ended up working at a gas station.
Congrats to your son, man. To quote Obi Wan "Good! You've taken your first steps into a larger world."

Good luck with the son, I wish I could motivate my step son to do something good.
I remember taking the ASVAB in highschool, dang the recruiters sent me stuff for the next five years over it. They kept saying the Nuclear Navy wanted me.
