My son who is currently serving in Iraq wants me to find him an M1-A for him. Last time I looked they were scarce. I told him for a standard model he was looking at somewhere between $1,000 and $1,500. Does anybody know where I might find one and what a standard model is going for? Due to the loss of my job I had to part with mine and got a grand for it a year ago. Thanks in advance for suggestions and input.

Does he want you to send it to him. I was wondering how you would get it there. I understand that they are sending all that they can round up there.

Thats a HUGE no no SHeriff, so my guess he wants one for when he gets home.

Plenty of companies have them in production, so finding a new one shouldn't be an issue. Springfield and LRB are both making them, along with Fulton Armory. You can try over at http://m14tfl.com/upload/ if you can't locate one locally.

Thats what I was thinking that would not be good. my brother has one about 2 years old I think he has about $1200 in it. Shoots good. I have two of M14's in my armory. Fun to play with. They are the chinese Norinco copies. They shoot dead on never had a problem with them. LE price for them was $300 about 15 or 20 years ago. I convinced the then sheriff that we really needed them.

Bud's gunshop is generally a pretty good place to get a pulse on what new guns are retailing for (they rarely charge MSRP).

The Standard with black synthetic stock is $1,336, A National Match with USMC Camo Synthetic stock is $1,495 and the standard with a Walnut stock is $1,409.

They will ship to your FFL, you save sales tax.

Thanks for info men. No I wasnt going to try and send it to him. As much as I would like him to have one over there he is pretty well armed with his SAW and M-9. A friend and I our going to build a couple 16" style M-4s for him and his best friend to give them when they get back. I showed him my Cetme on the skybe the other day. He may go with one of them. I am going to check out the link at Buds. Thanks again for your help.

GMAK, IMHO, there aint no subsitute for the feel and look of a M1A, I tried for years to get rid of that gnawing feeling of wanting one, by saying they were expensive, buying almost every other .308 battle rifle out there, but in the end there is no subsitute. I have a Springfield, and a Polytech and love them. The CETME/HK G-3 gives a good feel, the FAL is neat but I guess the thing that was actually adopted by the US military always has a pull for the folks in the USA.

Do your research on the chinese rifles though, there are different makers of different quality, but for your budget I would think of a springfield or other us maker.

Okie shooter you dont have to convince me. I hated parting with my SA M-1A
but sometimes you got to part with stuff to keep the bills paid. I wouldnt be intrested in a chinese model. I know some people have had good luck with them but Ill stick with SA. I see Buds is sold out. We will find him something.

$300, nice! I just picked up a Norinco M14S about a month ago. It was listed for $850. That was the retail price, but I did a partial trade for it. I didn't spend a lot of time with it the last time I was at the range, but it seemed to shoot ok. I do not really like the finish on my wood stock, as I it looks like the finish was put on to make it look antiqued. I may refinish that in time. Very much worth having, and I enjoy shooting it, but I would also like to aquire a Springfield some time in the future.

I'm no expert, but my guess is the Springfield is the better "investment"...

Guys, I remember gun shows in the eigties, with a dealer having a table full of the polytechs, for 175, yes 175 each. The aks were actually more expensive, he also has bunches of Dawoo asault rifle, and even a realy colt ar cost just above four hundred. You could in the day get sks rifles for 650 for ten and ammo too boot from the distributers.

Oh those were the day's I had a dickins of a time spending six hundred+ on the Polytech but that was a bargain compared to what they are going for now.

Okie your showing your age. I remember Russian SKSs packed in grease for $125. Chinese SKSs in grease for less than $100. My waist line being 32" instead of what it is now. The younger guys will be on here 20 years from now talking about when they could buy a colt AR for ------. My how the years fly by.
