A couple of French MAS rifle's that have been "modified". First picture is a MAS rechambered in 8mm Mauser. Rest of the pics are of a .308 MAS. Hopefully the pictures aren't too huge this time around.

They're kind of appealing for some reason...

The bottom gun in the first picture. The sight plane is all wrong. You would be constantly shooting into the ground with the sights on the bulls eye.

Wow, crazy stuff. Does the .308 MAS shoot pretty good? I dodn;t know you could rechamber it in .308....dont; know much about the MASes.

i think thats a flip up rear sight so the plane would be correct.

There was a French MAS chambered for .308 when NATO forces started adopting the 7.62x51. I believe they used a scoped version as their DMR for a while before eventually replacing it.

Century Arms converted some MAS's into .308 but as usual the reports from owners were poor accuracy.

Is there a compartment in the buttstock for the surrender flag?

Makes you wonder how one could tell if the French were surrendering if it were arctic warfare. :icon_biggrin:

In all seriousness I know little about French firearms but still dream of the day I can find a FAMAS.

Something really jarring about the teeny AR collapsible stock and the front site on that first one.

Are those yours, or something you found on the net?

Between my 3 shotguns and my new HK I'm a bit broke to even buy surplus firearms.

Both of those rifle's I found on gunbroker while looking for a .308 rifle for my dad.

I acually built two MAS 49/56's. The guy i bought my AES-10 from was giving up his FFL and for some reason had about 40 MAS recieevers he wanted to get rid of. The conditions of the sale incuded ne buying two receivers at a buck apiece. I can't own a reciever without assembling it, so I gathered the parts and built these two. The bottom one is basically stock except for being chambered in .308. The top one I put a rail for a scout scope on.

The only problem I have had has been with cheap russian ammo. THe primer is too big and flows into the hole for the ejector, causing it to wedge itself between the bolt and the receiver on mine. With regular American .308, it runs fine.

i can visualize using a fal lower with the upper part of the receiver. remove the wood stock and make a bracket to mount the fal lower.

if i knew how, i would do a photo shop picture of it.

Look for the yellow/brown stains on the front/back of their arctic cammies!

I wouldn't mind a MAS 49 meself...in some obtainable caliber.
