Finally got the new furniture finished and installed tonight. AWESOME new PG from jdowney. The whole setup makes it feel like a different rifle. Also new port buffer and turbothis rail along with his trigger set. Everything went together really well, the trigger feels much smoother and breaks a lot cleaner than the original stuff, the set screws really tighten it great. Can't wait to give it a go this weekend without the flying brass! Then clean it up a tad and figure out what to do on the receiver. Pretty torn between a few coating ideas.

Great looking rifle! The CETME looks so much better with the right kind of wood furniture.

Wow! Looks fantastic! Can't wait to get mine, and will go straight to wood, no doubt. Love the pistol grip...JDowney you say? So how does one go about obtaining one of these pistol grips? Regardless, great job and an inspiration for me to aspire to!

Thanks for the compliments everyone! Its definitely nice to have it all back together and almost ready to shoot again. I kind of wish I had done a different finish on the wood, it actually ended up pretty close to what I started with before sanding, staining and coating it again but I wanted to the PG to match pretty well and I think it came out fine. Just a tad too dull, but thats easy to fix later.

Yessir, it worked out pretty well. I messed up a bit when I sanded it, didn't even out the first coat of stain enough so it looks a little bit spotty but overall I am pleased. It kind of gives it a weathered look that I am starting to warm up to :) It feels soooo nice in the hand, thanks again for working with me on the overall shape and features

See above, such a worthwhile buy for these rifles IMO. Here is his thread for more info:

Here is another shot of the PG that shows the shape better, totally a custom fit and it shows.

man that is one nice looking rifle you've given me inspiration to work on mine where did u get the rail from and what kind of welding was used mig or tig? I got a cheap mig but I'm worried about hurting it because it doesn't make the cleanest welds around.

That looks great. Love that grip. I hope to have some new pics of mine with the HK wood soon, after I give it a bit of TLC on the finish. Couple small dents to try to steam, and see what 0000 and tung oil will do for it.

Does anyone know if the original CETME wood handguard is supposed to be used with a heat shield of some sort? Any pictures? I got to the range this past weekend and the wood front end got pretty dang hot after 60-80 rounds. Seemed to stay a bit cooler after that so maybe it was just some moisture leaving the wood after refinishing it?

No heat shield on the Cetme wood. I don't think the G3 wood does either.

I'm sure you could fab a heat shield for it if it does get that hot. I never shoot enough ammo to get mine past a little warm.
