I think I am sold on buying a parts kit (why they demilled it in the first place?) and a reciever to build a Romanian PSL rifle. I kinda like the looks of the rifle and I love the "cheapness" of the 7.62x54 cartridge. Does anyone have any experience with this build? The trunnions (matching) are already riveted into the reciever, so I will only have to press in the barrel and pin it in its origional hole. Any advice out there? Thanks!

While I haven't built a PSL, I can say they are demilled because they are non importable.

When I built mine the rear trunnion was riveted and the front was not,but was off the barrel. It was one of the easiest builds I have ever done. The hardest part was installing the bolt hold open, and I had to install the mag catch. Looks like they may already be installed in this batch. Great shooter. I have used Rus steel case,7N1 sniper,Czech silvertip and Hungarian light ball. The Hungarian shoots the best in mine.

M1 Tanker I was under the impression they were importable as they have been imported before through Century a few years back and are not 922r dependent. Being that they are a true semi-auto with a 10 shot magazine or less what would make them restricted?
k98k792, thanks for the info on the ammo. Where did you find the Hungarian light ball ammo from? Does $29.95 per 300 sound like a fair price for Bulgarian 147gr Light Ball? I would have thought the 7N1-sniper ammo would have been top dog. Shows you that every rifle is different. I am planning on handloading some hunting loads and true match loads anyways. I just fell in love with the rifle, and the fact that the ammunition is cheap enough to shoot without having to worry about it really helps.
I am thinking about finding which surplus shoots the best and ordering a few thousand rounds just in case it dries up like 7.62Nato has. What is the preferred way to keep the ammunition long term? Metal tins?

I keep mine in ammo cans with dessicant after I open a tin. Never tried the Bulgy ammo, saw it splliting cases in a guys 91/30 .
Got the Hungarian from Sportsmans Guide. I had a coupon and am a club member,so it was the best deal for me.

I did some searching last night on that 7n1 "sniper" ammo....I'm still sitting on the better part of 3/4 of a case of Bulgarian light ball. When I got my 91/30 I got a case for $100 (1200 rnds) that was about christmas time I think. When I get my Romak I would like to sit on 2 cases or so at least. I'm not worried about the split necks and such in my bolt action but in a semi auto it might toy with the extraction a little????? Depending on how much /how far back it split.
What kinds of groups do you get out of yours with the light ball?
Whats the bolt hold open for? is it something that was factory on the gun? or is this a compliance/range required part?
How much was your build after everything was said and done?

Sub MOA with the Hungarian, about 1 MOA with the Czech and 7n1.
Bolt hold open is an original feature of the rifle.
My build was around 425$ three or four years ago.

From centerfire systems the Kit is $400 + $230 for reciever + $160 for scope
for a total of $790. That seems kinda high compared to the complete guns Century brought a few years ago. But there just aren't any other options now!

as i understand it these were demilled because the orig sear that keeps them from firing out of battery is located at the same or close to the same position as an Auto sear thus making the military type fall under the full auto weapon laws, even though there not designed this way.I could be wrong.:icon_neutral:

Huh. Kinda wierd. Anyways I now have a Tennessee Guns built PSL with the original 4x Romanian scope and a new (unfired) psl kit + reciever to be built. I spent the day yesterday shooting it at 25, 100, and 300 yards and fired about 100 rounds. It was nice, I had only spent about $8 for all that ammo. I kinda felt frugal! Anyways I got a 8x russian illuminated scope in yesterday that I think I will like a whole lot more. The 4x at 100yrds plus was a little light for my taste.

There was a thread on THR about a PSL recall, due to a 3rd hole that was welded up and did not conform to the ATF's specs.
If someone gets one of the PSL kits from CFS I would be curious to see some closeups of the receiver...
