View Full Version : Can't stop building AK's

It all started simple enough.

I built a polish underfolder...always wanted one....that was good enough for a while.

Then I saw a Hungarian AK fixed stock (pretty blonde). I bought it and built it, figuring that'd be it...2 AKs were plenty enough.

A year later a Romy shows up on my doorstep, all by itself (I swear ).

Now I'm thinking I should get just one more Romy AK kit to keep and not build.....well, maybe 2 more kits.

I'm beginning to think I may have a problem ...or do I?

Are you in a CAGE?

C Have you ever felt you should cut down on your building?

A Have people annoyed you by criticizing your building?

G Have you ever felt bad or guilty about your building?

E Have you ever had a build first thing in the morning (as an “eye opener”) to steady your nerves or get rid of a hangover?

It's funnier if you know the source:

Ya how many ak's is too many, I am not sure there a good answer for that question, guess you could say is the gun safe full, but heck always can buy another safe.

It's only a problem when you run out of fingers to count the builds... I am on my toes now....

I haven't built my first one yet, but have six kits plus compliance parts and a couple of receivers. Its tough when I can have been buying the egyptians, and chinese for less than a kit, receiver and compliance parts at the local gun stores here, thats my problem. Heck I started with just one ak, and I think now I have ten or so if you count the saigas, but not the kits.

If you want to build one later, I would get the kit as they are getting tougher to get your hands on for sure, at the last show I was at, they had some yugo stocked kits, and that was about it, I kick my self for missing the polish underfolders because I was too cheep.

+1 on what okie said about buying them now.

AK kits are just beginning to rise and will be a lot more in no time after stockpiles of barreled kits deplete.

Heck, even if you don't build, they are a good investment. I expect them to double in price by next year at this time. What seems like a lot of $$$ now might be a real bargain in a year or two.

+1 on getting the kit's while you can.

Wish I had stocked up on the AMD63 and 65 when they were going out the door for $80.

Oh, well. I "think" I have "enough" AK's to hold me for a while...

If anyone has any good romy kits out there I would be snapping them up in a heart beat, as they are getting tough to get.

The Romy G I just received today from DPH arms was pretty darn nice. It was used (wear from being carried), but in excellent shape with a mirror bore and nice wood....dirty but nice. Bore wear was nonexistent when I gauged it. Appeared fired very little. :icon_biggrin:

I may order 2 more ASAP. Why? I don't know...I just can't stop....:drink:

Since I started building(16 months ago) I have built:

4 Romys
4 Yugo M70s(2 UF and 2 Fixed stock)
1 Yugo M72 RPK
1 Yugo M95A

I ordered my Khyber pass AK receiver today and will order the Romy kit & stock payday.

My goal was 1 a month, but $$$ and 4 months in Ranger school have put me behind.

Until you are building 1 or more a week you should be ok.

I can demil and build one in a day if I start at 0800am, If I had the $$ I would build one or more a week.

Damn!

Do we have to start a 12 step program for everyone here now?

I built just the one YUGO UF I bought off of weasel_master last Oct. I LOVE that thing to death...I would like to build a pistol AK but I'm not in a rush to do so. I'm content with just my 1 AK right now....the pistol might materialize if this summer is as boring if I think its gonna be. I'm the one with the problem not you..My poor 50BMG bolt action has been neglected and needs to be finished...the 1919 is done and soon I might finish my prints to do a 9mm Carbine MP-40/sten kinda deal using sten mags I dunno..

How many magazines do you guys have per rifle? I got the 12 pack from SPG for $70 something a while back and another about 3 months ago for a friend who has yet to pick them up along with his Rom rifle I nabbed at a show for him. So 14 mags for 1 gun...I can't justify a drum mag but I would like one :bash:

I'm sitting at around 20+ mags for my AK. I've got three kits begging to be built.

Beside's the many projects I have going, I have a few kits put away for future times;
- two Romy G's
- two Imbel FALs
- one Saudi G3
and the receivers for them. :icon_biggrin:

Hmmm those would make a sweet Pistol :bash:

I've looked at some of the nice conversions guys are doing but I can't really justify it right now. Heck I'm trying to talk myself out of a Romak 3 cause I should really start saving money.

When I joined the old web board, I think three years ago, I think I had twenty firearms, with half being mil surplus. Now I keep finding guns and ammo when I clean up the living room. Maybe we all need a twelve step program.
