View Full Version : Terrorist or just a guy from africa ? My truck driver trainer terrorist err...

I was in training for my trucking job at the start of the year and had got on unpaid training leave from my first trainer then came back.

The next guy I meant was from Africa and a NIGERIAN.

I meant this guy at the terminal where the trucks are parked. He was VERY VERY exuberant and happy to meet me. I was cool with that. I've met a ton of nice people from Africa and most are pretty smart to boot. This guy once I was in his truck I saw a christian cross hanging in front of where the drivers face would be. I'm not a religious person so I was sort of offended but I didn't say anything. Company policy for trainers is NO religious things at all.

So to start out the trainee normally sleeps on the top bunk but this guy told me NO NO NO I want you to have the bottom bunk because you need to be comfy. So I took it but later asked again why and he said the real reason was so that he wasn't strangled in his sleep by the trainee

Ok so far sorta odd but I guess normal concerned right..

I then hear this guy above me chanting in his native language and praying with his wife. I heard him say god and other stuff while doing it and prays jesus ect but then back to his african tongue.

Ok so i'm laying there and YEAH this sorta freaked me out a bit started giving me flash backs to black hawk down movie and the skinnys ect...
So I decided I'd let it go but be cautious and hopefully he would be cool.

I went to sleep after a 11 hour drive (we drove 11 / 11 shifts team)
and woke up to something VERY wrong and disturbing!
He was yelling when I was woke up VERY loud and it startled me awake so I wake up and become FULLY alert (he doesn't know I am yet) but I hear him plain as day "DON'T THEY KNOW TERROR DOESN'T JUST COME FROM PLANES IN THE SKY!!!!!"

I'm like :  (did he say? ) yeah he did!! WTF !!

So at this point I'm on my feet and I ask in a very loud authoritative voice
"IS EVERYTHING ALL RIGHT!???"

His response:

"Yes everything is fine, YOUR DREAMING!! go back to sleep"

I'm like:

I'm dreaming? WTF I'm TOTALLY AWAKE!!!

So he's talking to someone on the phone I have no idea who.
I decide I can't stand for ever and we aren't hauling hazmat so I'm going to sit down on the bunk. Then I deicide hell i'll lay down because I still have to drive in the morning IF I didn't wake up to him shouting ALAH AKBAR . I had my knife handy .

I went back to sleep after 2 hours after laying there with this terrifying feeling my truck driving trainer was a terrorist after I called and talked to the company REP to report it. The brushed it off and didn't think I was serious because I was a trainee.

So then I'm like OMG they don't think I'm for real and just said well either i'm going to DIE in the morning or I'll be ok. I called my wife told her the above so she and my folks / sis can sue them and get college money for our kids.

So anyways after that night which I tossed and turned then had to drive 600 + miles across the country. So while I drove he slept and I was trying to think of what to do. How to report this ect and worried be might cut my throat while I drove.

So a week goes by (yeah I couldn't get out of the truck the company rep didn't think I was telling the truth) everything is friendly again and he's always talking about god is good and talking about god and I'm like uh ok I don't care too much about that right now..

we get to a truck stop in the evening to shut the truck down and go to sleep it's some where in new jersey I think this time and I lay down because I've been driving and lay there with my eyes open.

I can tell he's sorta up to something but not sure he's sitting in the passenger front seat and I pretend to be asleep and close my eyes so in the dark I can see but he can't tell my eyes are open from the front to the bunk.

I'm just laying there watching him seeing what he's doing everything was sorta normal we joked around the days before pretty nice and always respectful. I'm laying there and it's been 15 minutes he looks back sorta a glance then he turns and looks at me and does the peering thing people do when they want to see if someone is asleep in the dark ect.

I tense up a little bit then I see him shift his body so it's slanted in the seat and he starts bowing like Muslims do when they prey and quietly chanting.

This whole time he had been telling me how he went to barrack obama' church in Chicago. He literally even has a picture of the president on his wall!! Showed me pic's of his house and asked if I knew whom the man was in the picture frame on the main wall in his living room. He kept saying I'm a soldier too like you and that he once was in the army back in africa

This is all that happened besides the international phone calls at all hours and the chanting and telling me he had to meet a lady to pick up some money and she came from africa. Said she was giving him money for clothes to take back there.

Being ex military I swore an oath to protect and defend but I'm not SURE if this guy was just pissed off at our dispatch / complained to his wife in a very crazy manner or if he actually IS a terrorist!

I get pretty nutty after hours of dealing with "four wheelers" ie people that car drive in car's and trucks. Had people do some VERY stupid stuff including pulling out in front of me. The little man in the back of my head says this guy is a bad guy and I want to listen to him but I still don't want to do the wrong thing and get a MAYBE ok guy sent to gitmo.

It's been months since I've seen Richard O ( o )
who works for W Transportation.

W trucks don't get pulled over at scales because of the pre pass in the high way scales they have installed.

What do you guys think?

Well You should ask him about Christ and faith. I work with both Afirican Christians and Musliums. If he is a African Christian he will start talking and won't shut up. I workd with a Eithopean guy and saw a picture of a a cross on his wall. I called him brother, he went ape. He said yes we are all brothers and over here we are free. Thank you for calling me brother my brother. My point is they take it serious over there. It's not just for Sunday and when the pastor or deacon is around. I work with a west African Muslium and he is a great guy A # 1 good man. But he does not talk about religion much and then only to condem the people he feels are crazy. He says all these Musliums that commit terroist acts seemed to have money good jobs and connections. So in his book they have it made.. Why would you want to kill people or harm your new country?

Anyway thats my two cents

How certain are you this guy in no good? Are you sure enough to make a call to the FBI?

100 % and yes. He needs to at least be looked at. I don't know who to call. ie # ect The thing is I don't want to give them my name. I don't want to be involved after turning him in. I have two little kids and a wife to protect and it's my word VS his. I really don't know what they would do.
Any LEO's here?

I haven't talked to him in months but it keeps bothering me as something isn't "Right"

Ive worked with quite a few folks from the African Continent, and it can be a real case of culture shock, but its no reason to get xenophobic....

I remember the first time i lived in off base housing outside of Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan.... besides the shock of how small their houses are, and how they are laid out i originally thought i had moved in next to some kind of wierd cult or something..... i could hear low chanting coming from nextdoor, sometimes for more than an hour or two at a time.... i would hear bells, gongs, and occasionally smell some really acrid nasty smells i began to think there was some kind of wierd cult thing going on..... turns out, it was a group of Buddhists, their chanting was a way to clear their minds before meditation, and the acrid smell is because the next block over was a crematorium for a local prison. together these things had me totally confused and wondering if i was gonna end up on some sacrificial altar..... in reality though, all these things were mundane, and my suspicions were aroused more than anything because of cultural (or religious/cultural) misunderstandings...

Two days before 911 I turned in a guy that was being followed by the FBI but they had lost him in Omaha NE. He wanted SCUBA lessons! He has a small finger bent 90 degrees back in two joints where it pointed back at himself and electric torture scars all over his face neck and upper chest! I told the FBI about the marks and finger and they were VERY INTERESTED! The FBI was great and very glad I called to inform them! Two months later there were mailings sent to all SCUBA shops about middle easterners wanting SCUBA training. Don't hesitate to call! Better safe than sorry!

I agree with K98. If you have information that you are concern about share it with the appropriate agency (in the phone book). They have people that will look at the information that YOU tell them and will determine if it is credible. If you’re worried about your family, use a pay phone and don’t give your contact information.

Remember, he who hesitates is lost! Better to be causious than regretful!

Not saying youre jumping to conclusions, but even if the guy is Muslim (which I doubt, they wouldnt normally mention Jesus during prayer I wouldnt think) why does that matter? Having lived in the South for a good bit I can say there are rituals and mannerisms in Christianity that make the hair on my neck stand on end.

If youre honestly concerned that the guy is a terrorist call it in. No use asking the peanut gallery for opinions, it sounds you have made up your mind already and none of us were there in the truck with you.

So a guy says some prayers and is full of vigor for his religion and he's a terrorist?!

Man if everyone thought like that, I would have been called in for questioning literally THOUSANDS of times in my lifetime and my father must be Bin Laden himself!

I think you are overreacting more than a little bit. And if you are offended by a simple cross necklace, then you may have some stuff to work out inside yourself before you go accusing anyone of terrorism.

I read your post again this afternoon and understand about how people are all guard now. But having thought about it, I think the guy is not a terrorist.
Praying in a mixed tounge would seem normal in Africa. If he was Italian he would pray in Italian. Again I work with quite a few Africans and found them to be more patriotic than native born Americians in some cases. On the whole the ones I have met do not like the Iraq war and believe it was not worth it. These would be both Christians and Musliums.
On our 'Mountian war' they are for the most part for it

I found this one thing striking.. They say over and over
''this is the best nation in the world.. you can do anything here, we are free''.

I believe it was "DON'T THEY KNOW TERROR DOESN'T JUST COME FROM PLANES IN THE SKY!!!!!" The way you put it almost sounds like he was concern or fearful. He may know something, or heard something or just have his own thoughts. I personally would be more concern if you were the one teaching him to drive a tractor trailer, similair to the flight lessons taught in Venice FL to some of the 911 terrorist. People are all different, but if you're concern report what you know.
