He was smart and used a string to fire it off his kids play table. I wander if it was a "what if I do this?" project.

Very interesting and I do applaud the fact he did attempt it with safety in mind...I sure as heck wouldn't want to do that without the string.

lol, was that a pistol round?

His video description:
"My Homebuilt bolt action, firing it's first round. It's chambered in a Wildcat cartridge I designed myself, the .510 Deming Destroyer. It starts out as any WSM, WSSM, Remington Ultramag, or Short action Ultramag brass, gets cut down to .9" expanded to .508 and then turned down to .545 OD, the bullet is cast from a mold I designed and made. The only things on the rife that wern't made by me are the Savage Bolt Head and the CETME trigger pack."-Zebdeming

Here's a link to the build. It's one of the contest entries for the Duracoat homebuild challenge on weaponsguild. Each builder must meet specific criteria including documentation of the build and video etc.

My only question is "What now?". That's a short/fat .50 he wildcatted. I guess you take it out when friends and family come over and show it off. I guess a CETME grip/fcg was the cheapest available. I give an "A" for effort, C- for too long a string and sharp angle.(coulda yanked it over toward the string puller). d+ for bolt action. Semi auto would have been fairly cool A+ range. B+ overall score. I score myself lower, I haven't conceived or built anything from scratch so the builder has me beat.
Edit: I found more about the gun on other vids. Unless I'm seeing it wrong a piece of steel "pipe" was rifled by cutting through the side and pushing it through with a twist.( Side cut). This must have been sleeved afterwards. I've always thought you could make a crude "gun" out of most anything but the barrel would have to be already made. I see that is not the case. Lots of ingenuity, so all the grades now go to A+. I'd like to have the tools at home to try something like that.

I'd say B+ Good idea, good ingenuity, but why such a long barrel for a pistol round? Also, cool as it actually is, it's kinda fugly...
