I am predominately a hunter. From squirrels to deer, just about everything that moves. I recently have been getting into assault type guns. I bought a new RRA AR-15 a few months ago, and recently ordered a Cetme. I have been doing alot of research and I am not sure if it is going to blow up in my face or be the best gun I have ever owned. It seems more are pleased than not, so I am going to give it a shot. I have been doing some minor gunsmithing, so it should be fun. I came across this site from Robert RTG, and trying to find some pictures of Cetme's. I was going to get a 6.8 SPC AR upper to try during deer season or a .308 when I stumbled across the Cetme. I know they are not known as a precision shooter, but I hope to hone it down to atleast shoot the lungs out of some deer this season.

Welcome to the site! You are in the right place as a cetme owner. Make sure to read the stickies in the cetme forum as they will lead you step by step through the safety checks on your cetme. You didn't mention where you are getting it from, it does make a difference sometimes.

Lets reach for the "best gun" scenario.

I bought it on gunbroker. It is a Century, new. From a company called Southland Firearms.
Hopefully it will be good. If not I will tinker with it and see what comes of it.

Welcome! Two deers taken thus far with mine. Took a break for the AK and AR to have a turn last year. You can handload some fantastic rounds for the CETME using military brass. Barnes Trippleshock being my personal choice.

I have had an M1 Garand, M1A Springfield, Armalite AR-10, Mimi 14, Mini-30 (recently bought another) and have sold them all and Kept my CETME, also a Century. I have had a lot of fun amature gunsmithing it and it shoots more than good enough for deer out to 300 yards - now.

There are a lot of things to cover with the CETME but nothing that will break your heart, and not your wallet if you seek before you spend. My e-mail is evanb1@tvn.net. When you get yours, any issues you have, just drop me a line. maybe i can help.

By the way - my Century CETME has the "softest" recoil of any .308 I ever shot. I routinely hand it to guys at the range to prove it. Yours can too!

Good luck!

Hello, you and I have similar ventures, I just purchase mine and have been working on it since I got it, trying to smooth the action, mine is very similar it is new and is a Century, the first thing you may notice is the charging pull is very stiff "unless you get real lucky" I have taken mine apart about 5 times in the last week and I am polishing and working it as much as I can on my spare time, it seems with the newer more recent ones are less likely to have the the ground head issue and gap issue, but the more recent ones from what I have read are pretty stiff...
I have noticed that many times after racking mine even though it is starting to smooth out significantly it catches right before bolt closure ..
you may have the same issue being that the receivers are stamped and not milled or forged...it seems as though this would not be much of a problem when someone who cares ...and knows what they are doing puts these together.

Welcome! from another brand new newbie!

I picked the Cetme up from the FFL the other day. I had no problems breaking it down and cleaning it. There seems to be no grounding of the bolt head or any other noticably shabby work. It wasn't too dirty. It was very stiff, but not too bad. I did wipe the most of the white lettering off the safety switch. Not sure why. The red lettering did not fade or smudge at all. It is not very important to me, but I will touch it up later at some point. I was also disappointed that it didn't have the sling cut-out in the stock. It came with two Cetme mags that were rusted abit but fit well. I bought a couple of aluminum HK clips that fit, but they were hard to eject without smacking them, almost seem stuck. After popping them in and out a dozen times and cleaning everything they both seem to work fine now. I think I will like shooting it more than my AR. AR is very accurate, but just seems to be abit weak in firepower. I put the low profile scope mount from Roberts, some standard see through mounts, and a leopold 2x7 scope on it. I can see through the open sights with no problem. I wont be able to shoot it for a couple of weeks but It looks nice. Now just to decide what, if any, other accessories to buy then do some shooting. I think the rifle is a great buy at $500 if it proves accurate.

Welcome!!! .308 is a good round for deer. Shot mine a couple years ago with my CETME. It went right down, and didn't get back up.
