First, If any of you can install something anywhere near the suggested time, my hats off to you!

This took me about 4 hours. Measured things, oh, 20 40 times. Bought a special drill bit guaranteed not to walk. It walked. Yes I center-punched the spot to drill. Tried to do it without taking the trigger group out, that had to come out. My first time taking it apart, there is now a little spring in garage parts hell. The instructions were excellent. I cut about 1/4" off the short leg of the hex tool in order to get some room and control inside the receiver.

The rail fits the scope base better than the first one I ruined. But it's costly, $49 with shipping. I'm surprise the scope is offset, Kalinka has a good manual that can be downloaded for setting up the scope, detailed.

Lastly, beware internet how-to's. I had to dismantle the trigger group ofter checking several sources to discover I had assembled the sheppards crook/pins wrong. Yeah it's simple if you've done it before, I hadn't.

I think I took about an hour, when I did it. You do want to take your time though, and get it right.
I also used two-part epoxe and applied it to the base and screws. It will never loosen or come off without the application of heat. The old timers always epoxied their scope bases to their remchesters--I think it's a good extra step.
Which spring did you lose?

Nevada, I think its looks like it'll work, congrats.

Where did you pick up the mount kit? Thats on my list this month.

It was the sear spring that flew away, I found what might be a pen spring to replace it. I checked and the sear catches properly when the trigger is held back.

Tantal has the rails. The one I got is the newest, three screws, three pages of instructions. Quick shipment on Tantal and Kalinka, USPS priority mail. The model is the MPK2, I didn't see it on their site, they emailed me the info about it. http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/bstmounts.html The fit on the scope and finish are much better than the Kalinka rail. And that mount is on the reciever, solid.

I was thinking of putting a rail on my SA-85M. How much did the rail part cost? I have plenty of button-head screws, taps, etc.

He stated in his post that the cost was $49, and from the looks of the first photo it is a kit including the screws and allen wrench.

Hoot, the rail from Tantal is a kit, as pictured above, for $49 delivered.

Kalinka has undrilled and drilled rails, meant for rivets, here: http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=40
$13 to $35 not counting the Mosin-Nagant mount, $75. If you know how to tap ( I don't ) it would cost less than the Tantal kit.

Hi Rusty, you're right on as usual.
