Anyone know off hand if the flash hider threads on an old cteme rifle barrel are 28 or are they some kinda metric?

The standard threads are 15mm x 1 RH and are the same threads as an HK. However, I have seen some comments about non-standard threads being used by the Angry Beavers from Century on their builds.
My Century Cetme had 15mm x 1 RH and was able to install a US copy of the standard HK flash suppressor once I removed the Century muzzle device.

Anybody know if removing the muzzle break leaves the barrel legal length?

Yes, it does. I beleive that the barrels are stock at about 17 3/4" long, so if you cut off the threads it should still leave you with plenty of length

Minimum legal barrel length for a normal rifle is 16 inches. However, most try and go to 16 1/4 just to be on the safe side.
Measurement is taken from the bolt face to the end of the barrel. If there is something permanently attached to the end of the barrel then that counts as the end of the barrel.
