i didn't want to hijack the other thread when the question was asked about debit cards.

i finally went over to walmart and got me a debit card( VISA). it is not tied to your bank account in any way. i paid $3 for the temp. card and put $20 on the card. i then restered it on the net and a few days ago received the card with my name on it. i loaded some money on it and tried it and it works good so far. they charge $3 a month for a service fee, which is high to me, so it is just a convience thing for me. i am going to use it while traveling to see how it works on my next trip.

you can up load money on it several ways. i think up to $1500, i plan on mine to be around $500 and use it to order stuff and to not have to carry cash. i hate writing checks so my wife had been getting me cash from the bank.
you can also use it at ATM's to get cash.

i have always been afraid to use my credit card on the net. ( i have only done it a couple times, usually i send a USPS money order.)

if it doen't work out i will post it.

Credit card is fine on the net just check their verifier, pay the bill at end of month no charges at all.
I have used mine for years on the net and never had any problem.
Nice thing about CC is if you don't get what you buy you dispute it and they remove the charges from the card.
jst my exper.

Why not just open an another account at your bank and get a Credit/Debt card and move money into it from your primary account?

i was not wanting anything tied to my banking account or accounts.

i have a debit card from my banking account, but i do not use it.

this was just another option for people to be aware of.

For you USAA Members, they offer a precard card now and you can just put money on it online.
