Throughout my dad's Naval career and my time in the Marine Corps, I've heard of and partaken in the inter-service haggling that exists between branches. However, all the branches serve their purposes and I think USCG are the unsung heroes, not only with the ever expanding missions due to the global war on terrorism, but also the domestic aspects.

So I salute the USCG :America: and wish them a happy birthday.

And for Buddymack, I recently saw something that stated the USCG is now under the DHS.

vmkeith Good point..

The CG fired the first shot at sea durring the Civil war.
Chased German U boats from tiny wooden boats in WW 1
Landed Marines at Tarawa and Soldiers at Normandy beaches
Patroled backwater ports and rivers in Korea and Vietnam
I could not list them all, but as far as I know if there is a war, police action Intervention, Operation or whatever they call it.
And there is a body of water, the Coast Guard is sent in with the rest

Oh that is right Homeland Security makes sense....but they do much more than that, if anyone gets a chance we have coastal area out off the Oregon coast that they practice at...pretty cool!
