alright, now to the rant.
i bought this 762x54r from MGS for $2.99, i got 4 boxes and... it PISSSSSED ME OFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

1:1 misfired. 1/2 were live 1/2 were dead. it got me to the point where i was pissed off enough to i just didn't care and i didn't want to even try to draw a grouping with the mosin

i ran some silverbear 762x54r through the mosin and it fired 100% fine...

look at this, this is the # of fired brass next to the # of misfires(very positive firing pin strikes w/ no boom):

I picked up a Nagant from Big 5 Sporting goods for 89.00. It almost looks as if the darn thing had never been fired. They had 5 in stock and pulled them all out for me to look at. No cosmoline and well oiled.

I ordered 800 rounds of the Czech 7.62X54R Light Ball from www.ammunitiontogo.com and spoke with the guy about it in advance. This guy test fires his ammo and gives his recommendations and comments. I have had excellent luck with it but with any corrosive primer stuff..well you know...clean, clean, clean. For 89 bucks for the rifle and another 89 for the ammo where can you find a cheaper sport?

some of the czech has a very hard primer and was made for the machinegun.
save it and use it in your machinegun when you buy it.

i have had pretty good luck with the czech surplus ammo so far. i guess you can get a bad batch some times and sometime i get a rifle that just will not shoot a certain brand of ammo...i just go to something else for it. good luck.

I like the last photo where you can see how the recoil affected everything. You can see a slight sillouete of where you recoiled.

I know how you feel Henry. I bought some S&B 308 to split with a guy that has a FAL. His rifle will not set a round off at all and both of my 308's get it every time. Try it in a different rifle and see if it will fire in it.

sorry to hear about the ammo. maybe you should just sell what's left and buy a different kind

BTW, that last pic is awesome.

Try some Hungarian, http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/Hungarian_7.62x54RH_147grn_Light_Ball.html great stuff.

I have used Hungarian light ball steel cased silver tipped ammo from AIM and it is great stuff. I had no problems at all of any kind.

Never had any bad czech ammo, minewas not copper washed tho...only seen the Hungarian in Copper washed steelcase.

If you want some real quality, buy by the sealed case in 762x54r...cheap, good quality. I recommend Czech and Hungarian to all. Even the Bulgy is good stuff in a Mosin.

Try the hungarian at night thru an M-44...the flase is bigger than the one in your pic!

have you checked your firing pin protrusion?????

That was my first thought too, buy he said that they were all positive pin strikes...anf the mosin pin and spring is a heavy hitter.

But yes, Henry. If you haven't used the pin portrusion gauge (the weird littel notches on the screw driver tool) then definitely do that.

ive seen firing pins that were in spec but the pin didnt protrude enough and wouldnlt set the ammo off, not mine but a friends. After adjusting it it worked great. I would guess its the firing pin not protruding enough, the mosin has more than enough spring power to set of any 54r ammo. Ive even cut several link out of some of the springs and never had issues with about 15 kinds of surplus ammo

I had a pin protrusion problem (say that 3X fast) with a turk mauser...It just was not going out far enough...took the bolt apart and tooka 1/2" hammer and laid it on the best anvil I own (Flat top) spun it around while taking slight hits up and down the shaft....I forget if I used a mic or not...Anyways the rifle works now...it did not take much but I was surprised that it turned out the way it did.

i may have to try that, i have a turk mauser with a firing pin thats right at the limit of being inspec so it wont set off most ammo, ive just been looking for a new pin lately

Cool pic, the one with the shottie, It looks like you can see the slug or the wad, in the middle of the flash.
