I ran across what looks to be a cut-down/shortened Israeli Mauser K98.
As far as I know and have seen, the Israeli's never shortened the Mausers they used did they? The seller claims several countries created 16" and 17" Mausers, but I don't recall and being Israeli.
I'm thinking it's a refinished sporterized Israeli Mauser.

I don't know the correct answer, but with the popularity of "tanker" models, I'd bet this is another modern modification, especially since the picture looks like its been refinished. I'd stay far away from the seller, seems to be a BS'er.

Yeah, he seems shifty. I asked him what shipping would cost and he quoted me $270.00...what a rip-off.

Mitchell Had a Tanker mauser that was a new production gun, but I think it was based off the M48 and not the K98

Here's a link to the rest of the pics, about 48 images. There seems to be a bit of frosting at the end of the barrel but it might clean up after a few rounds.

Anyway, it does look highly refinished...if only the seller weren't so greedy with shipping. For $270.00 I'd expect it to be for something heavy like a Barret .50 cal but for a shortened Mauser?

Nice looking little weapon and probably fun to shoot as well. Nice little camp rifle. Shipping is a tad high tho...

Did I read that right? $270 just for shipping? Or is that the price for the gun with about $70 for shipping? Either way, they usually scare me off if the shipping is getting into the $35+ range :D Cheepo bastid that I am!

We've had a thread or 2 about cutting down Mausers and Enfields. Find a beater or something that has already been sporterized, or something with a lot less collector value like a Yugo, and make your own. I've got a Yugo reworked German 98 that was sanitized--all Nazi markings removed--probably right at the end of WWII. I'm saving it for a possible shorty conversion.
