Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Two U.S. Marines were killed in southern Afghanistan Saturday while a prisoner was trying to escape, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force announced Monday.
The prisoner escaped a room where he was observing prayer time, somehow got hold of a rifle, then fought Afghan and coalition forces, according to an ISAF press release.
The Marines were slain while trying to subdue the prisoner, and the prisoner was shot dead by small-arms fire, the ISAF said.
Investigators are looking into the incident.
I just saw this article on cnn.com, and had a thought...why in the hell are the guards armed with firearms when around the prisoners?? Then again, why aren't the prisoners in restraints when outside their cells?? From what I read into this article, the policies need to be changed to prevent the needless death of another of our service members.
