Here is a pic of my son at 13 he bought this m44 for $42 with money he won beating my coworkers at texas hold em. he refinished the stock himself....his first time at doing that...and this is his first big bore rifle, by the third round he was busting clay pigons at 50 yards.....he was scared to death of it at first

I have a M-44 that the previous owner did some finish work to, I don't
think it turned out too bad. I must have not, I bought it, didn't I. LOL.
Same pic as in the Yugo thread, sorry if it gets old looking at the same
pic.

I wouldn't be able to store them like that. I am nit picky with my rifles. Dings make my heart drop.

I was joking but the Soviets supposedly kept the bolts open during storage. I find it hard to believe too. But, isn't the tension off the firing pin spring when open?

Old Jimmy

I store mine closed with the striker eased down to keep pressure off the spring.

Just picked this up today. A buddy had it and shot two rounds out of it. "Too loud". The price was more than right, too!!!
A question: Is this the correct sling? Did they put the "dog collar" sling on them too? Or did they put whatever they had?

rickinvegas

What are your receiver markings? The sling is a Polish WZ48 Mosin .22 trainer sling.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a275/Deity42/DSCN0308.jpg

Probably not correct for a Polish 7.62X54r Mosin and certainly not for a Russian.

Here are some pics of my unissued Polish M44

Thanks for the info Rick. I've got one on order for my other M44 that had no sling at all. Russian Izzy 1945r on the receiver. I do like the sling and noticed some in this thread.

Here's a couple of flash pics of my first M-44...it's storming outside so you'll have to put up with the lousy photography...

To say this is a "shooter" is an understatment! The only thing matching on it is the fact that nothing matches!

BUT - I don't care...after picking up almost a dozen 91/30's since last year, this was my first chance to get my hands on an M-44.....

$95.00 from Allens Armory in south Florida...and believe it or not it was exactly as described on the web page. He had a laminated stock for a few bucks more...but I think I'm going to enjoy refinishing this one!

Now for that M-38....

Okay, it's stopped raining so here are a couple of "better" pics...
