Wanted to know what a fair price for a Springfield SAR8 in very good condition is. The receiver is steel and is stamped "Made in Greece"

The muzzle brake has been removed (threads were milled off under the brake) and the rifle has a wide forearm, standard butt stock and pistol grip.

It has a brass defector and carry handle attached.

If I do pick it up, I assume that I can install an Investment Grade Firearms "press on" muzzle brake.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks,

Hoover

It depends on whether it is a SAR-8 or a SAR-3 that was overstamped into a SAR-8.

An overstamped version would get a little more extra for collectors.

AGG1 (Tony) might know more on pricing. When I sold my SAR-8 overstamp I got about $1,700 for it but I had extras along with it.

If it's a regular SAR-8 then I'd probably guess around $1,200 but I wouldn't pay anything over $1,400 for one without extra accessories and what not.

Thanks Noskov.

It was a regular SAR-8 (unless they perfectly stamped the 8 over the 3).

Looking to upgrade a bit from the CETME's, so this may be an option.

Thanks,

That is the one with an udesirable alluminum receiver. I don't think its even worth 735.00, more like 550.00. It's a temporary shooter with it's future as a parts kit. The Greek, steel folded receiver ones are worth alot more. I believe the aluminum ,molded receiver ones were made by springfield armory and aren't near as good.

+1 to everything HKaltwasser said.

I believe Springfield Armory will still honor the warranty on it but will more than likely offer you to trade it for a value they set towards one of their M1A's. I'm not sure how much you'd get if you go this route though.

Avoid those thick aluminum versions at all costs. You can't use most HK/CETME accessories on them such as the shell deflector, carry handle or collapsible stock.

Agreed with everything above. I almost bought one last year. There was one in the paper here for a cheap price. Called and talked with the guy, it had some issues with it. Was tempted to get it, and get Springfield to warranty it (i.e. give me a trade in value for it.).
