I need to find me a nice Swiss rifle. I remember shooting one as a kid and being very impressed with how smooth the action was and how hard it kicked! I was about 12 or 13 at the time. Then I fired a .303 Jungle Carbine and found out what a hard kick really is!

Here's another one I just finished recently for a buddy of mine. The wood was in HORRIBLE shape, and the handguard was the worst for some reason. He looked around, and found some pics of sprterized ones, and asked me to do it for him. after stripping, sanding, chopping, sanding, and about 40 coats of tung oil topped off with some polyurethane later, here's the finished product:

weird, I feel happy for them... and me and my buddy for owning them. Luckily, I live in America and I'm allowed to do what I want (to an extent) with my property... I supe up my cars, replace stereos, wheels, tires... And I fix up my rifles to suit my needs and wants.

ymmv, and I think yours looks VERY nice in its original condition.

No worries! Photobucket can be screwy sometimes.

I got all the GP-11 the guy had (80rnds) and asked if he got more to let me know. I'm in his place a bunch snooping to see whats new so maybe i'll get lucky.

I just bought a K-31 today. It has a troop tag, and what is funny, is I had bought this rifle AFTER i bought a mess of GP-11 earlier...:2pistol:

Just got one myself and these are great shooters. Might even get a sporter stock from Boyds and save the original. I shot up all three boxes of GP11 ammo that came with it averaging 2 1/2" to 3" groups at 200 yards with my bad eyes. Ordered a bunch of loaded Prvi ammo and a set of Redding dies to reload them.

SteelCore

yeah, not gonna be able to put that back in mil condition...bubba?

Trailblazer got it rite.

What can I say? I'm getting jaded...no offense to you converters...those are noce conversions...but I'm starting to move from shooter to collector...and infectiong others in my shooting grp too. (Case in point: Buddy gets M91/30 at gunshow last wknd to drop it into some plasti-glass stock..., add a scope, etc...by the time he disassembles it and cleans it, he's loving it in stock config.

Anyhow, no offense to those who went above and beyond restoration and conservation...you'll make the mil config ones gain in value! :icon_biggrin: and you got the shooter you wanted.

What I think is a safe ground for most C&R's if you wanted to hunt with one would be to use a composite stock (making no mods to the gun itself) and maybe get another trigger pack/parts and mod it if needs be (keeping the original parts untouched). This way with the turn of a few screws the gun could be changed back totally unmolested.

But, as always it's up to the owner.

Every number matches and had a troop tag under the buttplate. The stock is a little beat up but it shoots like a dream.
Here it is after some clean up.

Here is my K-31 I got from AIM, and my SR-1911 I got from Dad. The 1911 was sporterized and rechambered to .308WIN back in the 50's.
I included an old add I found from the 50's...

The 1911 has a drill and tap mount on it; I have a clamp on for the K-31, as well as the original bayonet (not numbers matching)

Buelligan I like both of your K 31s but I have say the green stained The main reason I posted is to say TC looks pretty good too..
Sort of like a homemade camo job done 1850s style. I love interesting custom finishs that are not plastic.

NORTON, Thanks Buddy. I havent heard from you for some time , I hope all is well. That TC is my first ML rifle from like 1980 or so. I have tons of ML rifles , so I thought My first love should get SPECIAL TREATMENT . I stained it green 15 years ago give or take a few years ,and the last year or so I have been adding some brass parts when ever I find them at shows and what not. "isent WHAT NOT a funny word " and I cant spell isent.

This is my '42 K31 refurbed in beech in '56. I only have four K31s and it had the roughest furniture by far. In fact, I even considered painting it (oooh, the sacrilege!!) but I decided to redo it and give a shellac finish a try. I used dewaxed orange shellac flakes from Homestead and finally settled on the padding method to apply it.

I cold-blued a few badly worn pieces, and relieved the barrel channel a bit to free-float the barrel. Back in July, I shot it for the first time and I was pleased with the results. My ol' eyes are about shot for iron sights but from 50 yards, it produced a nice group. Man, padding that shellac is a pretty steep learning curve, and I still haven't completely figured it out, lol. Nevertheless, here she is:

Check out swissrifles.com and post these pics over there. They'll give you the translation of the address and even tell you if someone of that name lives htere and such. A good percentage of guys over there get responses back saying "that was my grandpa" or pics of the rifle back in the day or something of that nature. Pretty cool Schtuff.

SRDC is good people and is the end-all-be-all of Swiss rifle info.

Finally got around to taking some gun pics today.

Top one is a walnut stock that's been sanded and refinished. Wasn't too happy about that, but they did a good job so I've adjusted to it.

Middle one is a beech stock in original condition.

Bottom is a P-series with no import mark and diopter sights. Owner's name is on a little black plastic tape under the foregrip. This one's the most recent purchase, haven't even shot it yet.

These things sure are addictive!

They're these Swiss aftermarket peep sights that clamp on to the receiver. Damn sight is worth almost as much as the rifle!

Top - my three K31s; two came from Dunhams for $100 plus tax each; bottom is my K96/11. To make the 96/11 the Swiss took a Model 1896 rifle and modified it to match the physical characteristics if the Model 1911 rifle. This included splicing a pistol grip to the stock and mechanical changes. It shoots every bit as good as the 31s.

Great looking rifles in here! I love how K31s always seem to hold more individual history than other rifles of the same type. Its usually pretty evident he troops issued these rifles and the owners since cared about them and treated them well, especially for a rifle that saw military service.
