Where would you find a bayonet for an SVT-40?
and a sling?

ebay, gunbroker.com or aimsurplus.com
You just have to look until you find one at a decent price. Bayonets run from $150 to $300. I use a PPSh sling on one of mine. (see above pics) I believe they were used on the SVTs.
[Bought this one from an elderly neighbor; all matching no import markings.

Nice looking SVT. Sling looks interesting. Haven't seen one like that. Can we get a better picture of the sling. Wonder if it isn't a replacement and not original.
Pretty in a Rusky kind of way

Sorry, Ron. I wasn't aware of that rule and did not see a note at the beginning of this thread. (Well, not until after you edited your post this morning to include that rule.) If that's a standing order, I would recommend posting it at the beginning of every picture thread just to someone doesn't commit the offense ever again.

my svt has haRDLY any recoil at all.Why the led sled for that light kicking rifle .mines a pussy cat on recoil?

The led sled is just to hold the rifle for the pictures. I use it mostly for sighting in scopes, or cleaning bores.

Very nice looking weapon.
One question, did the Russian issue this rifle to entire rifle platoons, company., Battalions etc.?
Or was it issued like a SMG was in the a US or Commonwealth rifle platoon?

Norton, I thought I read the Russians had planned on making it a general issue weapon, but with the massive need for rifles in WW2 decided the Mosin Nagant was simple and much easier to mass produce,
so stayed with them. Oviously they made some, so my guess is they went to select units or maybe each plt was issued a few.

Everything you need to know about the SVT-40 (and SVT-38) can be found here:
http://mosinnagant.net/USSR/svt401.asp
From that site:
Production of the SVT-40 on a mass scale began on July 1, 1940, with the simultaneous curtailment of the Mosin Nagant Model 1891/30. It was the Soviets intention to arm all infantry units with the new self-loading rifle. This explains why early war dated Mosins are difficult to find. Production was slow at first but still ahead of its forebearer, the SVT-38. This was due in part to streamlining the production method and simplified parts as well as the worker's experience... SVT-40 production in its first month was reported at 3,416. In August 8,100 rifles were completed and another 10,700 and 11,960 in September and October respectively. No production figures are shown for November and December but an educated guess would be 14,000 for November and 18,000 for December, This would bringing the 1940 production to around 66,000 rifles. Ishevsk started production slightly later than Tula, perhaps in the fall, as they had to cease production of the SVT-38 and retool for the model 1940. Both arsenals produced the rifle right up to the beginning of 1942, when the order was given for Ishevsk to begin production on the Mosin Nagant on a full scale basis again. Tula produced the rifle until the order was given to cease production on January 3, 1945.
There's lots of other great info on that site, as well as lots of photos of the SVT38/40 (and Mosin-Nagants).
Cheers,

well i got to get the reaL scoop on what svt-40 i have.seems from all i read and marking matches for my rifle to the link on post above. i have an svt-40 reworked ishstev or however its spelled. and has the avt stock on it with the markings.it was reworkd later on and fitted with avt parts and markings.not sure if that makes any diff in collecter value or not ,i would think if anything lowers the value.ill post pics as soon as my wife come backs from canton with the damn cam lol.of all the markings and rifle.Glad i didnt lay a lot of money out for it if it is just a shooter with not much collecter value. but i did trade a rem semi auto 30.06 for it i had traded a romanian ak with scope and side mount for the r 06 . so i have about 575.00 total in it i had to add it up.Hope its worth that at least and ill enjoy shooting it. Stock and sling both have matching last 3 numbers of serial numbers

Looks like a very nice piece to me. Interesting on the sling. Does the markings look like something that an arsonal would do, or maybe done by a unit or soldier? I wish you luck on the
scope mount. Maybe someone will be able to help you out on that. Sorry I could not ID mine for you.
