Took my 1943 Russian TT33 out today. I have replaced the recoil spring with a Wolff spring and ground a slight bevel to match the one in my Norinco copy.
But the slide still locks open on all my mags before they are empty. Not always, but enough to be a bit of a pain. Fun gun otherwise.

Don't under stand.
You replaced the spring but why did you notch the spring to match the Norinco (213? 9mm or 7.62x25)?
Can you swap the slides form each pistol to see if they work or cause same problem in other gun?
If you can't get it fixed, I will trade you my Norinco 213 9mm for your Russian TT33 ;)

Sorry. I wasn't clear. The extension of the slide release lever that the magazine follower hits and pushes up to lock the slide open was squared off on the TT33. I thought a cartridge might be hitting that corner and causing the slide to lock back. The Norinco has that corner slightly beveled.
That norinco was $120, the TT33 a tad more. Besides, the TT33 is part of my Russki WWII collection. Thanks anyway!

With a loaded mag inserted, and looking down through the ejection port, are you seeing any interferance?

No, everything looks fine. The gunsmith couldn't get it to malfunction at all.
I was careful to keep my thumb away from the release, too.

In 1911 magazines the follower surface that pushes up on the slide lock can usually be tweaked down a bit to help correct an early locking problem (that is if you have one of those stamped steel followers, if it's molded plastic you'd have to grind it down). If the TT33 follower is like a 1911 follower you may be able to do this to it.
I have this same sort of problem on a cheap 1911 mag and a cheap Sig 228 mag, but unfortunately they've both got molded followers.
edit: I think I said that clearly, but I've been a bit off recently so if I didn't let me know and I'll post a picture of what I'm talking about.

I have 4 mags, I'll try that with the two extras and see what happens. Thanks.
